Aw, the Saturn thread is gone.

Anyway, I just got my Saturn in the mail today and I've been playing the heck out of Virtua Fighter and Clockwork Knight. I haven't had this much fun playing video games in years. There's something really nostalgic about this game even though I never owned it as a kid. It's not an amazing game, but it's enjoyable for what it is. I can't wait to start building a Saturn collection. :)

Would you say it has a good retro feel?

Don't even start. I meant because it reminds me of like playing with toys as a kid. Or like getting presents on Christmas morning. Also the similarities between it and Toy Story.

Clockwork Knight is one of my favorite all time games. I still have my Sega Saturn, with almost 100 games, but unfortunately Clockwork Knight got fucked up real bad.

How's the Sega Saturn emulation these days? I'd really love to play it again, and I could wait for delivery, but it's my fav game and I need it now.

Is Shinobi Legions a good game? I like Shinobi III, but the digitized sprites and the FMVs in this game look retarded. Sell it to me, is it worth getting?

almost perfect for a lot of games. i use SSF_012_beta_R3 for cwk1 and SSF_010_prototype for cwk2(including the jap versions.)

i don't think the versions matter too much, but i have several builds of the emulator in folders and these seemed to work.

>How's the Sega Saturn emulation these days?

Resident Evil is supposedly "fully playable" on SSF. I tried and it seemed fine until I realized neither zombies nor the lab creatures could hit the player.
Of course the game doesn't work at all in any other emulator, except in yabuse with input lag and graphical glitches.

That's just an example, of a game that people claim works.

I'd recommend Shinobi X because Richard Jacques made the music and it sounds kind of revenge of shinobi ish

Sounds like a bad dump or maybe a misleading graphical glitch. I can't see how bad emulation can affect the base gameplay mechanism like that.

>Sounds like a bad dump or maybe a misleading graphical glitch.

Nope. When using the same iso in yabuse, zombies could grab and bite me - except in yabuse i'd either get graphical glitches or awful input lag so it was unplayable either way - but in SSF, zombies and lab creatures couldn't hit me. Try it, SSF_012_beta_R4. The iso I was using was "dw-sat-residentevil"

I know what I am saying, stop pretending Saturn emulation is good, when random gameplay breaking stuff like this can happen in games that supposedly work perfectly according to people, who knows what happens in other games.

DoDonPachi

Not OP here, but why is it so confusing/frustrating to people that someone may have missed something as a kid, but still feel it brings back those feelings of that time again?

I watched Adventures in Babysitting for the first time a couple weeks back, and even though I missed it when it came out I still sort of felt a nostalgia when watching it. Not for the movie specifically, but for that era. I just assumed that's what OP meant.

>>2214228
Anyways, great choice on a console. Tons of great games if you can find them. Clockwork Knight 2 is even better than the first one, though in my experience much rarer. It's well worth getting though. As is Astal. That's a great game as well, and still looks amazing.

Legend of Oasis is another excellent, excellent game that holds up very well.

Yeah, that I saw in theaters. That was a few years later though, by that point I was going with my friends a lot. Adventures was in that weird time frame where I still felt like kids movies but my parents didn't want to take me to them. I wonder how Don't Tell Mom The Babysitter's Dead stands up these days. Adventures in Babysitting was surprisingly entertaining.

OP here. Admittedly I probably could've conveyed what I meant with a bit more eloquence. Luckily I don't plan to go into a literary field any time soon.

I plan on eventually getting Clockwork Knight 2 since the first one kinda ends on a cliffhanger. Astal looks really good too. Beautiful sprites.

>>2214529

Thank you for the import recommendations. The best reason for owning a Saturn is the imports, so I'll be sure to look into them.

Astal still looks incredible, especially in motion. It will probably make you a little sad to see it because there's so much care, detail and animation packed into it that most modern games don't look nearly as good.

Also that doesn't change anything I said. Am I supposed to check and track down which version of which emulator I should use every time I use a new game? And that'd be assuming everything is documented, which it isn't. My point was who knows what other gameplay glitches there are in other games, the thing is just not reliable.

Your "retard" insult suggests that you are being offended by me showing how inacurate and unreliable Saturn emalution is. It's funny because everyone knows that about Saturn emulation, but you're somehow denying it and telling to yourself it's fine probably because you use it a lot refuse to think what you are using might be using off.

You typically look at a compatibly list when trying cd based games. I showed you the game working, and you can find every single version of the emulator on the dev's site. Basically if it doesn't work on version 12, check a compatibility list.

http://emulation-general.wikia.com/wiki/SSF
http://evilboris.sonic-cult.net/SSF/index.php?x=satcomp

There's also several different compatibility lists out there. Saturn emulation is great.

Yeah If you like 3(my fav Shinobi game) then you will enjoy Legions. You can hit back shurikens with your katana and its neat seeing guys after you slice them in half split apart with blood flying.

The live action cut scenes in between stages are god tier cheese. You can't help but love it. My only complaint was I thought all the boss battles were "meh" compared to the previous games. That's just me tho.

It isn't great. It's not even finished:
SH2 emulator 100%
68000 emulator 100%
VDP1 block 95%
VDP2 block 95%
SCU block 100%
SMPC block 100%
SCSP block 95%
CD block 85%

The fact it's on version 0.12 should tell you that. There's also big problems with input lag.

The best way to play Saturn games is still with a modchip.

Be sure to get the Panzer Dragoon games OP.

Also, anyone tried reflashing the Action Replay cartidge? I've read you can now use the AR cart to boot CD-Rs without needing a modchip, but it makes the cartidge's save function obsolete, what's up with that?

I've had a pristine Saturn model 2 since 1996 or 97 and I never did disc swap in fear of damaging the lens, but I'd risk it in order to be able to play CD-Rs on it. I want to play Radiant Silvergun and PD Saga on the real hardware.

AFAIK the dude is working on making it work with saves, so as long as that doesn't happen I'm not even gonna try.

I see, good to know.

By the way, is there a way to revive AR carts? I have 2, but one of them doesn't work anymore.
I figured it just died, but I've also read it's possible to fix it (I believe it also involves doing disc swap, burning a CD-R with an iso to reflash the cart, something like that).
Is there a way to actually revive a cart? My Saturn doesn't even boot it anymore.

If I find a way to revive my other cart, I could use it to boot up bootleg CDs, but I don't want to lose my saves so I'm not doing it with my working cart.

>> No.2215837

>>2215794
Not an AR cart but I had an official Sega Saturn Memory Card that stopped working because I didn't use my Saturn for a few years. And from what I read a few years ago, if I remember correctly how these things work is that if they don't get used they lose the charge or something like that; the theory being that they get slightly charged every time they are used by the console.

So I just kept it on the console hoping it would somehow regain its charge by some sort of Magic and it might just be a coincidence but eventually one day I noticed it started working again.
Unfortunately it became very prone to errors and losing data, so I figure there's some permanent damage done to it, but hey it kinda works.

But again it's not an AR cart and it might've just been dumb luck so I wouldn't really know.
