Most useless character in the classic series. I genuinely feel that and I don't even hate her. She's just completely pointless. Why the fuck is she in RE1? I know the story and how she helps Chris progress but as a PERSON, what the fuck is her purpose for existing?

What's wrong with this? The series would be so much worst without Jill. Rebecca should have just been a medic sent in with Bravo team. Not actually a part of the team.

I know Rebecca has had a rather precocious childhood and that this has lead to her being rather sheltered. On the other hand, with some real world experience, she could grow into a wonderful humanitarian and a great gift to whatever community she chooses to belong to.

Listen man, these are the things main things about the way they handled the voice acting process, that is kind of common knowledge in RE circles:

- they wrote the script in Japanese first, then translated it to English. Right here you have the first strike, no way the dialogue is going to sound as good as if it were originally in English;

- the guy in charge of directing the voice actors, who were professionals unlike the live actors, wanted each word to be clear to Japanese players. This is why the flow is off and they all sound robotic, and the script was already awkward English to begin with.

I wish I had the energy to do a more in-depth analysis but here's one example

the lines Chris has in one ending, posted by >>2210875

^ this sounds so close to how they'd say it in Japanese it's not even funny. The second part especially, they way he stops the line halfway through would never be said by a native English-speaker, but word by word that's a common way to break a line in Japanese.

It's questionable how she got into a special force with her age and gender to begin with. If you think about it, her whole purpose makes herbs and first aid sprays canon. I always believed herbs were exclusively a game mechanic like ink ribbons are. Then I played RE6 and they mixed herbs with a dead serious attitude in a life and death situation.

>It's questionable how she got into a special force with her age and gender to begin with

Later backstory tried to justify this by claiming that she was some kind of child prodigy who managed to graduate medical school, the police academy AND the presumably intensive special STARS training by the time she was 18. Jill was also supposedly ex-Delta Force (Were women even eligible for Delta Force in the '90s?) and a bomb disposal expert by the time she was in her early 20s, so it's safe to say that STARS members don't ever need sleep.

Regarding herbs, back when I first played RE in the '90s, I assumed it wasn't a coincidence that Rebecca's live action actress looked like she had Native American background, and that they were trying to play up the whole tribal medicine thing. Still, doesn't matter now, since REmake and Zero made her Eurasian when they started patterning her after that J-pop star.

Yeah, if Chris/Jill isn't rescued, your character will have a brief conversation with their supporting character. If no one survives, Jill's ending just has her looking unhappy and letting down her hair, whereas Chris just looks annoyed and lights up a cigarette.

I think far and away the funniest thing about the endings is how terrible the yawning and sleeping noises that Lynn Harris makes in the Rebecca endings are. The fact that it's not live and dubbed over the video slightly out of sync makes it seem even more amusingly awkward.
