I have the retro NES version of the Gameboy SP. It's an earlier model so it has a frontlit screen. I want to replace it with a backlit screen. Is there anywhere I can order these from cheap, or would my best bet be just buying a backlit Gameboy SP and swapping the screens?

Impossible. Early and late model SPs use entirely different Nintendium reactors, the parts are incompatible.

Depends greatly on how custom they are - what's changed on it, time it took, cost of bits. If I had sold the Zelda GB in the OP, I'd probably be asking £80-£90 for it. This SNES >>2211083 would probably cost a lot more, for custom art of that quality

There's more work to fitting a PCB inside an existing toy. Granted, "designed" may be a little strong, but there's a lot more to building something like that than you realize.
