Hey /vr/, show me your favorite job combinations.

I tend to use Most likely on Freelancer at the end
>Mystic Knight+Blue Mage
>White Mage+Time Mage
>Cannoneer+Chemist
>Thief+Ninja+Monk

My team always turned into Lenna mastering Red Mage and Summoner and everyone else grabbing Mimic.

>> No.2197342

Can't really remember what I had on everyone.
But every time I play through I always have Galuf/Krile with Time and Dual Cast ( X Magic ).
Cast Quick, Meteor, Meteor Meteor, Meteor Meteor.
Kills most bosses in one go.

I aimed more for fun than breaking the game in my last run.
Dragoon and Monk for the Counter.
Mystic Knight/White Mage
Summoner/Blue Mage
Thief/Ninja/Geomancer I called it ninjutsu, was my typical cave utility bot

same here. I used two mimes spamming holy all day and two freelancers, one for dual wield and x-fight, the other for healing.

I want to try a four monk run someday.

My favorite is still a lancer with high evade and magic defense up though. Use talk skill to sleep or drop brave on enemies so you can actually bypass whatever reaction ability they have, like blade grasp.

I don't even remember when I last played this game with a full, no-challenge party. Soloing it with weaksauce jobs like Thief and Bard was a hilarious ordeal, though.

FF5 - Rapidfire Mystic Knight on Freelancer after maxing ninja(or thief, forgot which one gave the best +speed bonus), blm and monk

FFT - Blackmage
Maxed +MA gear
Black Magic
Draw Out / Iaido
Mana Shield
Mana Font

Literally unkillable and will 1 shot everything in the game except for the last boss with Draw Out / Iaido

I've been meaning to get into FF for a long time, decied to start with 5 or 6. Will I get my shit pushed in too hard if I go in with no previous knowledge of the gameplay and without using any guides?

>> No.2200278

>>2200268
Neither are too hard to get into, it doesn't get too challenging until a few hours into the game. Latter bosses can kick your ass, but you'd have figured the gameplay out by then. It's no Wizardry.

As a personal recommendation, FFVI has the better graphics and story, but FFV is by far more fun and challenging to play.

Thank you, guess I will go with either.

Are the GBA versions with the music patches good enough?

>Kills most bosses in one go.

And that's good for you because you'd be out of mana if the fight went on longer.

I think Summoner Red Mage + 3 mimes are better... Bahamut nonstop. But you'd also need some blue mages, and one or two physical fighters.

I usually have two physical fighters and two mages, and distribute some additional magic skills and Mug among them. (but this is after maxing out all jobs, so...)

GBA is the definitive version for V because the translations for the SNES and PS versions are fucking awful (Wyvern = Y Burn)

FFVI's SNES and GBA releases have two entirely different translations, Ted Woolsey's le funny meme translation and the GBA one that is more faithful to the original script. If you don't particularly care about the script, the GBA version with a music patch is probably the best choice for all the extra content.

But V wasn't even localized on the SNES, unless you meant some fan-translation.

FFV's best as GBA. However if you're not using a flashcart I'd test the music patch and figure out if you still want to use it or not. It has a bad habit of popping when used on anything but real hardware.

As for FFVI, there's a version over on http://vrshares.net78.net/ with all the good patches if you're playing GBA. If you want the nostalgia translation, check out Woolsey Uncensored.

Pretty sure he means the fan-translation. There's a revision out for it if you don't like some of the lines, but I'd still take GBA for the extra content.

>> No.2200332

>>2200329
Oh yeah this thing. The readme leaves out one of the patches it contains, and that's the restoration of Celes' beating.

You can also grab what patches you want from RHDN if you don't like this version, there's a lot of work done.

Incorrect.

The iOS/Android version is above and beyond any of the other versions.
Same goes with 6.

1-4 are just ports of PSP/DS versions, but 5/6 were built from the ground up all over again.

It has son of the submarines and hundreds of other lame jokes and artistic licenses taken that detract from the original script. If you don't care for the nostalgic retro feel Woolsey's translation has, the GBA version is the better choice both for the purity of script and all the neat extra content it has.

I'm sorry my post made you so angry you decided to make such a wonderful, meaningful contribution to this thread.

Anyway, another contribution to this "how to play" discussion. Relocalization basically ports the GBA translation over with a metric ton of bugfixes. It doesn't have the GBA extra content though: http://www.romhacking.net/hacks/2247/
