Did they ever actually tell us what "Reticulating Splines" actually meant?

Also best Sim City game by far, especially when you toss in Sim Copter and Streets of Sim City.

>> No.2178395

http://sims.wikia.com/wiki/Reticulating_splines

>The words 'reticulate' and 'spline' both have dictionary definitions, which has led several people to determine a meaning for the phrase, such as "to make a network of curved elements." However, Will Wright stated in an interview that the term itself is meaningless, as SimCity 2000 does not reticulate splines when generating terrain; the phrase was included in the game because it "sounded cool." It has since been included in many Maxis games, mostly for humor, much like the references to llamas in multiple games.

I don't know about Sim Copter, but Streets of Sim City was fucking shit. It would be better to not mention it to make a case for SC2K being the best.

Sim Copter was cool.

simcity 2000 was by far the easiest game in the series.

however that also made it the best.

the game's lenient engine allowed you to create pretty much any city you wanted and it would hold some level of success. it really let you get creative and was very sandboxy.

every other iteration felt a lot more about min maxing. i think sc4 took it way too far especially, as if you didnt maintain the delicate balance of zones and population needs, your city remained a shithole. really was a turnoff for casuals, and probably played a major role on the shift of the franchise focus (to that shithole of shits, simcity 2013).

simcity 2000 made you get joy out of laying out a city that you thought was cool and interesting, so you arent purely focused on the budget and making sure youre building the city "right"

maybe simcity 3000 was chill also but i dont remember that game at all.

I liked Streets of Sim City since you could build your own crazy tracks with it.

As for Sim Copter, the missions were ok but the best part was leveling the town with the Apache. I actually had the original version with the easter egg where the naked guys would swarm you at the end of every level.

the first time I saw it I nearly went to sleep because I was fed up with SimCity at the time. Now it's blowing my mind how much human power could go into the game to make such a feat happen.

Living in that city would suck...
Also I'm surprised how long it took to make, seems you could have just looked at the game's code and engineered a perfect city based on that far easier

I didn't play it a whole lot but I found it a lot... Blander than SC2K. Yeah it had more options and prettier graphics but I had more fun with the earlier one.

Also it's when the game started getting needlessly complex, which got even worse in later editions.

Why do they find llamas so fucking funny? I never got that. It's just a regular animal. If they wanted a funny animal they should've gone with marmoset.

3000 and 3k unlimited were my childhood. Streets of Sim City was a buggy, unpolished game, but man it was a load of fun. At one point, I had memorized what most of the buildings from 2000 looked like in-game in Streets. Not to mention Streets of Sim City came with the SCURK tool, which was basically Sim City 2000 edit mode. It let you place down any building anywhere, and shit.
So many memories.

I played a lot of SC2K in school. And i also played a shitload of SC3000, So i have a soft spot for it. But I think that SC4 is the best game in the series. Dat music

It was a racing game where you could import your city and drive around in it. The game primarily involved delivering packages to various parts of the city to get cash to upgrade your car and weapons while blowing up or evading enemy vehicles.
