I have two questions for you guys. I lurk here all the time, but I very rarely post. Here's my first question:

>Are any of you guys YouTubers, and if so, how do you record your video game footage?

The second question is a little more complex. Here goes:

>Which version of SMB2J is the best?
Emulators are absolutely out of the question for me. I don't have the money for a famicom or a reproduction cart at the moment. I have the All-Stars version for SNES and I have the inferior port on Super Mario Deluxe. I also have it on the Wii virtual console, but the controls on my virtual console games are pretty fucked. There's a huge delay, and that game is hard enough on its own. I don't even want to attempt it with shitty controls. What would you recommend?

That's not because of the Wii, it's because you're playing on HDMI TV. Try using a CRT and you will see the input lag is not there anymore. Wii VC titles are pretty much flawless emulation, and if you're using the classic controller pro, you shouldn't have any problem. You can even play NES games with just a Wiimote and it's just as good.

SMB2j is one of my all-time favorite games. Having played every version on the hardware it's come out on, I have to say there's no substitute for the original FDS version. The 3DS port isn't too bad though

I actually knew about the HDMI thing, but the thing is I live at home. The Wii doesn't belong to me. It's my family's and its in our living room. I have a really nice CRT and like 14 consoles in my room, and everything works perfectly. I can't bring the Wii in my room, though. Everybody else will have a shit fit.

Well you refuse to emulate, you don't want to spend money on a famicon or a repro, I'm guessing the japanese cart and a converter is also out of the question, you don't want to play your VC version. So that's only really left you with the other two versions you already have. You've played them both, you should be able to pick your favorite.

You would had been like 5 or 6 by the time CRTs started dieing.

Get a non shit TV.

I'm having a hard time choosing between the SNES version and the GBC version. The GBC version is neutered, and I don't like the controls in any of the All-Stars games. They're a little too floaty for my taste, and I don't like the way Mario breaks bricks. If I were doing a YouTube video, which would you rather watch? I only have minor complaints, and I could sit through either one, if there's a version that MOST people would prefer to watch.

If you want to know just for a video, I guess you'll get a better recording from the all stars version than playing your game boy in front of a camera.

>> No.2175824

>>2175816
I would probably use a gameboy player, so I could record from my TV. I asked what recording you guys use, because I'm currently running my console through a DVD player, recording all of the footage to DVDs, and then putting it on my computer and cleaning it up in a video editing software. That method is extremely tedious though.

Buy a used one for like 50 bucks then mod that shit.

>Emulators are out of the question
Why... exactly? You don't have money for a repro or a famicom so your absolutely best option is emulation, emulation also completely avoids the problem of needing to capture a/v from an NES.

>>2175842
This.

Also a decent capture setup is going to be at least 100 bucks, just fucking emulate that shit.

>> No.2175858

>>2175848
Some people just prefer to play on actual hardware. It just feels better. There are a lot of famous YouTubers who refuse to emulate.

>> No.2175872

>>2175858
But apparently that is out of the question for the OP. Maybe he should try a different game if he doesn't care to emulate. Outside of fixing his TV issues and using the Wii emulator,he seems to not like the alternatives.

Its the easiest way to get footage on a budget, as it and all streaming/recording software are free.

Compared to buying a capture setup, buying a reproduction cart, buying a wii, which are all apparently out of the question for whatever reason OP states.

I can respect that people prefer the hardware, but honestly, I feel like emulation will be the perfect solution to OP's problems, he's probably just turned off because of all the shit-talking on /vr/ when honestly its pretty much exactly the same,

I am. Here's my channel

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCe3dUfDdWwprPwxpG9RcEIw

I have complete playthroughs for a ton of games

I emulate everything simply because I don't have the hardware right now to record footage from a real console, but I am hoping to grab the stuff I need soon

This is totally not retro but...
How did you handle the Evil Within? I tried playing it last night and it feels like garbage. Everything feels bad, the story is all over the place, apparently forced stealth (vs a game like Shadow Of Mordors not so forced, but super beneficial stealth)

Anyways, I'm just going to reiterate use an emulator. You may as well stream it live on twitch, then use its embedded export feature to export it to your youtube page for very fast, and very easy capture.

I use a Dazzle DVC100 for all of my retro recording. I also have a compnent/s-video repeater set up to split the signal to my CRT and computer so I don't have to deal with the stream lag playing it on my computer screen.

I record the videos through AmarecTV at 60fps using the Lagarith lossless codec, then I move them over to Adobe Premiere Pro where recently I've been converting them to 1080p 60fps videos so I can have them at 60fps on Youtube (important because encoding/playing back at 30fps causes every other frame to drop).

I think it works out pretty well:

get a flash cart.

why the fuck is your virtual console games "lagging"? what are you doing, playing on a potato underwater?

something is wrong with your setup.

(Not OP, by the way)

What's the end file size like for you, and do you re-encode inside Adobe Premiere? I use a cheap capture card (Diamond VC500), and a short video (webm related) encoded with Lagarith (using Virtualdub) comes out to over 100mb. I have terrible internet, so I'd be stuck uploading a video for hours.

>> No.2176531

>>2176495
Yeah I re-encode to H.264 in Premiere. A ten minute video ends up roughly around 7-8gb in size (that's what you expect from lossless).

After re-encoding in Premiere (and scaling the frame to 1920x1080) an exact ten minute video is 1.06gb.

Also you should play with your deinterlacing options, because those lines are physically dangerous to the naked eye.

It's well known that Lost Levels gives Luigi different physics than Mario, but Mario also has slightly different physics compared to the original game, so since you're playing as Mario and Luigi with physics from the original game in Deluxe, there are several little edits to make Lost Levels stages work.

Lost Levels also featured stages with wind that push Mario and Luigi a bit and allow them to make longer jumps. This was removed altogether in the Deluxe Lost Levels stages, and levels were modified accordingly.

Finally, Worlds 9 and A-D weren't included in Deluxe.

All that put together equals a bad port of The Lost Levels in Deluxe.

Woah that wind thing a new levels sounds very cool, like a different game altogether, gonna have to try it sometime
