Mutha fucking Dino Crisis

I have no real point here, other than posting that this was the best Jurrasic Park game ever, that had nothing to do with Jurrasic Park.

I love dino crisis but i must have tried about 5 times over the years to complete it and i always give up at some point, last time i gave up i came to this point where you have to move these massive pipes around in the correct order or something,i was actually thinking of starting it again today because i want to beat that motherfucker.

I would say dino crisis 2 is the better game,it moves away from the resident evil style and more action adventure.

1 and 2 are pretty different. One's survival horror the other's more action-oriented. Both are good.

2 is an action game. I don't think there was a single part that was even remotely scary, and I was a bitch about horror games back when I first played it. It's a lot of fun either way, though.

>DC2 might just have the only water level I like.

Yeah because its actually fun. You're not just helpless underwater you get a sweet like maintenance suit that lets you fucking jump and you get some distinct weapons. The pace is slowed down just a touch but for the most part the controls remain the same (see: not shitty inverted Y axis shitty camera bullshit)

It makes it actually interesting and a different change of pace. Its really too bad every other underwater level is just a piece of shit with horrid controls. I don't know why games still have really bad underwater segments.

>> No.2162695

I wish we could have seen more of Edward City. The entire premise of 2 hypes it up so badly and not counting the tank section there are about four playable areas, with most of said areas being host to cutscenes only. Kinda disappointing not being able to explore a giant dinosaur infested city.

I'm surprised you say this, because in comparison to the rest of the game, the underwater level of DC2 does have crippled controls. No running, slow walking, slower shooting, and a long slow jump that leaves you vulnerable.

Actually I think the underwater level of DC2 is the only part of the game that looks somewhat like survival horror:
>it's based on the action of the game, but with crippled, slower controls
>your weapons are taken out in favour of much weaker ones; and the good weapon you can buy is very expensive (at least if you play on hard, which you should since that's the only way to really play DC2)
>big scary enemies
>feel of emptiness and loneliness, with only cadavers around
>you have to solve an "item puzzle" involving backtracking all the way back to the start

I love how Dino Crisis 1 wouldn't let you bull-shit your way through the enemies (like letting zombies huddle up so you can blow their heads off simultaneously). Each encounter would result in a hefty amount of ammunition dumped into it, forcing you to be pragmatic with alternatives.

Eventually you would get upgrades to your arsenal to make fights more doable but still risky. Loved how they actually balanced things out for the most part; it's too bad we won't get to see another game continue the story.

Face it guys,

DC1 and 2 were nothing more than design and technology testbeds for RE.

>DC1=RE + 3D BGs -> RE:CV
>DC2=mercenaries, proto-RE4

And the fact that they let DC die after just one bad (ok, terrible) entry and it being made by complete and total amateurs still makes my blood boil, after all these years.

The weird thing is that DC would benefit a lot more from the action bias of the recent RE titles.

But TBH, I liked DC1 the most. The lab was a good setting and I prefered exploring and opening it slowly rather than tread a jungle corridor in DC2.

>that's a bit of a stretch

No stretch here, just two names: Mikami and Kobayashi, who directed and/or produced RE and DC games.

Everything they learned by experimenting with 3D in DC1 and action-oriented game-play (among other elements) in DC2 helped shape the directions taken in future RE titles.

That's a really big stretch you're making.
For instance thanks to RE who made it ultra popular, it had became standard to use 3D models within 2D backgrounds, for many genres (pure action games, RPGs, etc) so it seems natural for DC2 to use that because at the time it was THE solution to make detailed background with the low hardware at the devs disposal.
As for the action, again it was a thing of the time like for Vampire Hunter D, Parasite Eve 2, etc Plus, a sequel of a survival horror turning to pure action was something that had already happened with Alone In The Dark 2, years earlier.

As for CV, by the next generation, 2D backgrounds were already a thing of the past, few games used them anymore (There is Onimusha 1 and 2...but that's all I can think of) and every survival horror in the PS2/Dreamcast era had 3D pre rendered backgrounds.
Plus it doesn't look to me that CV learnt from DC1. The camera angles are shit in CV compared to DC1, they do not take advantage of what more one can do with moving 3D angles while DC1 does and has some unique, tense and cinematic camera angles.
But then again CV is shit on every single aspect.

To me proto RE4 was RE: Dead Aim. Seriously, the engine looks similar and even the way the characters move looks the same.

>>2163770
Mikami being an "executive producer" on some RE games like CV doesn't mean shit. In most cases "executive producer" just mean they put his name in the credits as a form of respect because he directed the first game and created the franchise, he may have come to the studio once or twice and give his advice and thought that probably nobody even listened.
It's obvious Mikami doesn't really care about what others did to the story of the RE franchise. In REmake he barely acknowledge 0 even though he had to know about it because development of 0 started before REmake: Rebecca is still the same weak girl and there is no mention of the Alpha team actions except from an optional and missable document.
