i've got a aliexpress knockoff everdrive MD and it plays everything I throw at it. I know some of the knockoff ones are fucked (nes especially) but I bought this one before I knew and have never had a problem, save yourself another ~40 bucks on the official one anon.

Somewhat related- I think I know the answer I'll get but here goes:

I just bought a JUNK famicom- it may not work, but it was very cheap. I have two possible ideas:

If it works, AV mod it and buy a flashcart
+ Original Hardware
+ Very good compatibility
- Costly

or

Modding the controllers for USB use and putting a dedicated NES/Famicom retropie (already owned) inside

+ Much cheaper
+ HDMI (which I understand isn't necessary)
- Emulation isn't 100% perfect, though with latest emus and a mild overclocking it'll be fine for NES + Gameboy

Not sure what to do.

i have the edmdv3 and have no problems playing games, although save states would be neat to play around with on the console.

Retrogate seems good, are they the way to go in terms of buying?

Also is the 2.5 fine as I dont care about resetting to save nor games like pokemon stadium and will be mostly playing rareware/obscure/beta prototype games on this thing so V2.5 sounds better right?

Out of tune with Flash Carts, so here's a question: Do I need to do any extensive modding to the system itself in order for it to be more accepting to something like this, or just buy it and I'm good to go?

Thought about this as a better alternative to playing on the Genesis, like OP. Trying to develop a library of games seems really tedious, especially with the price gouging and other non-sense.

it's a pretty shitty thing of krikkz to do honestly, I am sure there are plenty of users who have no idea they bought a bootleg, instead of bricking them he should've added a nag on startup and game boot reminding you that you're playing on a pirated product and you should consider buying a real one.

So I'm about to purchase pic related which is one of those non-Krikkz flash carts. I keep reading that if I install the wrong OS it will brick the cart. Can someone please point me to a download of the version I'm supposed to use? I would greatly appreciate it!

The OS is already on the cart it's only if you want to update that you'll need to flash the board. All you need is a formatted Mini SD card and a rom set (No-intro is best).

that's just for the everdrive's menu and it's not a big deal. the n8 does it too but i think you can change it in new firmware
