I played Punch-Out!! on the Wii years ago and I fucking loved it. Years later, I've got Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and I check out the Masterpieces section and play the ones I've never played before, Punch-Out for NES being among them. What the hell is up with the dodging in that game? It takes a fraction of a second after you press the button to actually move out of the way. Is it just a poor port or was it like that in the original? How does it compare to Super Punch-Out? If I got Super Punch-Out would I hate the dodging in that too?

Most likely it's display lag from your TV. If your TV has a Game Mode, turn it on and see if that helps. Even then, though, most TVs will have at least two frames of lag, barring a few exceptions.

Dear /vr/, who's the boxer you had the most trouble with in Punch Out!!!? Not sure what it is but Soda Popinski destroys me every time

Before I learned how to block correctly I could never beat Great Tiger.

Now when I tried to go back earlier this year I got stuck at Bald Bull. I haven't really looked up how or what I'm supposed to do. I just play up until I die every couple of days.

Fucking Bald Bull and Sandman, who is basically a black Bald Bull with a different signature attack.

My TV works just fine with every other game.
It's seriously about a 1/3 of a second after I press it that I dodge. Is this one of those deals where you have to release the button before the command is actually input?

Bald Bull, it took me forever to get the timing right on that bull rush.

I used to play this game all the time on Animal Crossing for the GameCube, then on the Wii Virtual Console, and this nigga used to destroy me all the goddamn time.

Funnily enough, the first time I actually got my hands on the real NES cartridge and played it on a CRT, I wiped the floor with him.

Even the slightest bit of input lag can make all the difference in Punch-Out. Once your reflexes have developed to a certain point, you can avoid almost everything and win without resorting to exploiting the AI, I.E. the Man's way to play this game.

I still can't get past Mr. Sandman, though.

Well dude, Tyson's deal with Nintendo is long over, the demo in the masterpieces section that I played was of "Punch-Out!! featuring Mr. Dream" anyways.

I have never successfully hit Bald Bull once he starts doing the charge attack.

Apparently there's a camera flash in the audience that tells you when you need to attack, but the timing window is amazingly small. How many frames do you actually have to get the attack in?

Literally impossible to beat punch out (without memorization) on an LCD. I don't know why they would port a game like that to any current gen console.

If it's a flat screen then that's the problem. Some games have tighter timing than others

>> No.2161628

I used to hit him out of it consistently. I think the real difficulty is psychological, the actual timing isn't THAT strict.

I have yet to get past this guy. Before I figured out how to actually play the game, and learned about all the visual cues and shit, the second guy was a roadblock.

My poverty mode LCD doesn't seem to have any lag. I never noticed any difference between playing on that and my computer.

>> No.2161871

Wii U NES virtual console games (and all the VC demos on Smash 4) have problems with input lag. For whatever reason these problems don't happen on Wii VC copies.

In case none of you know this yet

If you hold block before he does an uppercut, he'll freeze in place and you can hit him and get a star

Hold the up button for a second and he'll guard his face, with quick timing jab him in the gut for a star.
Do this 3 times and stunlock him with a 2 hit combo, then the 3rd hit do a star punch. When he gets up stunlock, star punch. When he gets uo from the mat, stunlock, star punch. And if you are good with dodging, dodge his regular blows and block his Piston Rush.
Boom. That gook is dead.
