What is your opinion on getting hints, guides, maps, etc. from the internet when playing retro games nowadays? It seems a lot of people here look down upon it as tainting the experience, advocating to instead play the game blindly "like the developers intended", but is it really that different from just reading Nintendo Power or getting the answers through word of mouth by the other kids?

You shouldn't do that either. Try to get as far as you can on your own and get advice when you're really stuck.

the real answer is if you give a shit about what people on the internet or in real life think about how you enjoy videogames then you have bigger problems.

Fuck that, I use it. Everyone alive back then WISHES they had the internet so we didn't have to buy strategy guides, or try and get tips from >That Kid

These.

They're video games, who gives a fuck? Do what you want for maximum enjoyment.

I find I get more satisfaction if I can figure stuff out on my own, but if I get really stuck, I don't enjoy banging my head up against a wall.
