It's usually hacking into the game itself that causes the hold up. At least judging from observation.

Actually sent a message over to Kingmike, since Google-sensei says he's been hanging onto the script for a while and sent it to one translator that vanished off the face of the Earth.

Gonna wait for a response.

The thing with the classifieds on the site is that you have to have already done some work on the game or have some sort of proof of concept down before the ad will be approved. I went through that when I started translating another game and needed some help with getting the rest of the scripts.

i heard some people saying that this would be a pain to translate because it uses a lot of japanese wordplay and the like

is it true?

>> No.2160683

>>2160671
Yes. But to be honest, a lot of Japanese games have that. They fucking love wordplay and puns.

>> No.2160820

>>2160683

>>2160683

This. A lot of extra time in translating anything goes into trying to preserve the original intent along with the original pun. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it just doesn't.

Replaying the Japanese versions of some games I grew up playing as a kid, it's actually pretty commendable some of the things localizers come up with. Very often, depending on resources like time/skill of the programmers on staff, these guys also had to deal with things like word space (limits varying from 30-60 characters per line and there being zero ways to bypass that. The Wii release of Muramasa suffered from some of this, and the production time was much shorter than the ideal, so I really feel for the guys that localized the game the first time, only to get socially reprimanded for the localization feelings bland or scare or whatever it is people have said.

>> No.2161710

>>2160243

Back! I got a response, and since he hasn't heard back from the previous translator, he's letting me look at the scripts, which I just received.

I'll be starting a new game sometime tonight. Just have some outside work to do beforehand.

>> No.2161781

Nice! Good to hear. If you could actually translate it that'd be amazing. It looks like such a deserving game.

>> No.2162952

>>2156330
Yeah, especially since one game could handle text a certain way but the next one could be completely different. You'd also have to figure out any additional hacking that needs to be done like improving text limit as well as support for a different font if needed.
