Games level you couldn't beat without cheats as kid but can as an adult. Over the years I just have the whole map memorized and sometimes beat it without using upgraded characters and without crashing once but it takes some concentration to not fall off.

Well, I'd say this but I still can't beat it as an adult.

DK64 is one though. I couldn't get past the original Donkey Kong game but can run laps around it now.

I once had 1st place on this map from the very beginnning, all the way to the end.

Then I crashed the final jump.

I still cry about it to this day.

Fuck this stage. I beat it eventually but it was by far the most frustrating one in the game. Even the speedrun world record holder slows down more than he would usually have to during the first corner where you can fall down.

I've returned to Episode 1 Racer many times for the last 12 years or so, and the first time I managed to win at Abyss and beat the game for that matter was a few weeks ago.

That one drags on for fucking ever and you need to know the best route through the serpentine swamp section (also there's a shortcut in the canyon serpentines that explodes open in the second lap), but at least it doesn't completely fuck you over for a single mistake. Personally I also fucking hate the Boonta Eve Classic.

>let's begin with a maze section with half a dozen different routes that partly cross each other
>let's have another maze section with different routes
>and then some tight turns with rock arches and rock needles all over the place
>okay what now, I know, let's have tusken raiders with fire geysirs
>and a jawa sandcrawler that can run over you in a narrow canyon
>you thought it was over? nope, more tight turns and finally a field of rocks that severly damage you when crashing into them
>oh and by the way cheat tier sebulba is the track favorite

It's weird since the four invitational tracks afterwards are far easier than the final championship.

Even tried to run it on my XP machine to no avail.

Get an image from here (I previously had issues with one that the game wouldn't recognize): http://pastebin.com/mQPTT64T

Download the custom installer here and follow the instructions: http://www.play-old-pc-games.com/2013/12/02/star-wars-episode-i-racer/

This was also impossible, not to mention buttclenchy as hell. This game probably does a better job than any other of simulating the 'pressure' of being ahead of someone in a racing situation. Actual racing sims can never get the AI right, and most other games once you get to the front, you're already faster than everyone else.

This fucker just gives you a head start and slowly catches you over the rest of the race, and if you make any mistake you know he's going to be right behind you. It's amazingly intense.

The reason it was hard for me to finish that course was because it was SO. FUCKING. LONG. It's length wouldn't have been so bad if it actually gave you a straightaway once in awhile or something, but the entire time you're either zigzagging through narrow paths or dodging obstacles. There was no room for fucking up.

>>2147467
The Boonta Eve Classic had the same problem. The part that always messed me up was that part where you race through those arches.

I dunno, I don't think Boonta Eve Classic is really hard. Grabvine Gateway is slightly harder because you are practically forced to use the Z button and slow down on purpose to turn in zigzag because I realized some years later that Z button is helping a lot for sharper corners

The PC and Dreamcast version are damn near identical apart from network play and local 2player respectively. The N64 version suffers from cartridge limitations and looks and sounds worse with muddier textures, all cutscenes missing, much of the music missing and worse sound, however it's unique in having a cheat available that allows you to individually control the engines with the thumbsticks of two controllers. Custom controllers have been built solely for this purpose.

Needless to say the arcade and GBC games are entirely different.
