Oh, forgot to add that MM3 has tighter controls. One thing I dislike is that Mega Man is slightly slippery in MM2, which pisses me off sometimes. Also, dat slide.

Not even trolling, IMHO 6

MM2 was shit, the big reason it gets praise is for 2 reasons
1.nostalgia, if you take off the nostalgia glasses you get a game that has good music but other than that an average platformer.

2.MM1 was shit, so when this came out everyone was like "wow look how much stuff you can do now" by adding more robot masters and stuff like the rush stuff made for a better game but its not the best.

I say 6 for myself (even if the question was 2 vs 3) it was at the end of the systems life so you have nice clean gameplay, best graphics of the series up to that point and you have stuff that 2 & 3 didnt offer (charging of the buster, Rush jump jet, RUSH power, protoman)

This isn't /v/.

You don't have to state your opinions with absolutes and the cliche /v/ catch all phrase, "its/was shit!!". Obviously the first 2 can't be "shit" because the series wouldn't have made it to 6.

>>2141708

Tough one, I think 3 refined a lot from 2 and the difficulty was better (2 was way too easy). I played 1, 2, and 3 around their releases and while I think overall 3 is better it wasn't the upgrade that 2 was over 1.

>You don't have to state your opinions with absolutes and the cliche /v/ catch all phrase, "its/was shit!!".

Considering how homogeneous the games actually are, I always found the fierce Mega Man arguments to be pretty funny. It's always this value polarization that's way too steep for its own good.

MM3's soundtrack "godlike, 10/10 all killer no filler" MM4's soundtrack "shit/10 literally audio diarrhea"

3 has this little tune which is my favorite from any of the original Mega Man games, and that is Protoman's Theme. That said, I just barely enjoy 2 more, because everything about it has stuck with me ever since I was a kid.

That's some trash talk right there. I think that 4 is the worst of the NES games. It was the game that was the start of you having EXACTLY enough weapon energy to kill the boss if you don't fuck up. Not every weapon, but most of them. This trend continued in 5 and most certainly in 6.

And just as a minor annoyance, the boss health bars fill up SO slowly.

3 is my favorite, but pic related is the best.

Yeah, easily the best part of the pic. I saved it a few years back in an alt art thread on /b/. I wonder if the artist did the other entries. We have 2 and 4 here. Would love to see one for 3.

>>2141876
Flash Stopper has just barely enough energy. You can fuck up once, but that's about it. Even with a turbo button, it's close. Skull Shields on Dive Man is a big example. If you lose more than one, you can't use just those. Dive Missiles use up a shield, so you have to be careful. Drill Bomb only has like, 8 uses. Toad Man takes 7, I believe. If he jumps over more than one, you're boned.

It's not a rage inducing gripe, I suppose. 1 gave you enough, 2 generally gave you more than enough. The only thing close on 2 is Flash, but you can just finish off Quickman with Crash Bombs. I usually just use CBs at this point. 3 had a good balance. The only thing that could really derp was Top Spin. I've hit Shadowman with two of them and had no energy left and his life only down by 1/3.

this may be an odd question, but was Metal Man's insta-death to his own weapon attributed to a glitch or something of that sort instead of a valid intention on the part of developers? I can't think of any classic MM in which a weapon obliterated health like that.

>> No.2141923

Did we play the same game? Drill Bombs, Dive Missiles, Ring Boomerangs, and Dust Crusher all use 1 energy. Skull Barrier and charged Pharaoh Shot only use 2. I'll give you Flash Stopper and Rain Flush though.

You won't find any instadeath weapons like that past 2. If you're on Normal mode, a fully charged Atomic Fire will one shot Woodman. A single Metal Blade will kill Metal Man. Most of the others are two or three hits.

>> No.2141982

3 looks better and plays better. The ideas for the robot masters make more sense, and have better designs.I really liked the weapons, also, except for snake man.

2 has an awful color palette, megaman feels like he's on ice, and the concepts for the robot masters look and feel like desperate attempts to bring back the franchise. I get that it was a labor of love, literally, but it didn't come together. I never really felt like the weapons were that useful.

Given that, because MM3 was undoubtedly unfinished, MM2 is the more succinct title of the two.

I'd rather play 4. It's the more definitive game of the series, I think, just from sheer presentation, and it set the standard for future games. I don't care for all the robot masters, though. Useful weapons!

>>2141968
5 is... I don't know. I always get bored with it really fast. There's just something very off about it to me.

Out of them all, 6 is my favorite. Music, palette, robot master designs, level design, all of it. Megaman is slippery as fuck in 6 also, which I dislike, and his jump is gimped, and the charge shot is overpowered and the enemies have no health. But it's more enjoyable to play for me based on the level design and robot masters alone.

But out of 2 and 3 I would pick 3 by a longshot. 2 just feels and looks cheap as shit.

I agree that MM6 is one of the better of the NES entries, but it's unpolished. The levels are designed with the use of the Rush powerups in mind, but I would have liked to have seen the game use them from the very start, and design the stages accordingly. It would have made for possibly the very best Megaman game for the NES.

>>2141847

>MM3's more somber and desperate tone.

This is what nails it home for me with MM3's soundtrack. It's definitely a bit darker, and sadder possibly reflecting the fact that this third time around with Wily, Rock's life just seems to be revolving around constant battle and I like to imagine it wearing him down.

3 is definitly up there with MMX1 and MM2's soundtracks as some of my favorite soundtracks of all time.

He's usually the first boss I take on and if he even gets off a single rain, I consider it a failure. I'm just saying that the number of hits is a bit too proportional for me. If you had say, 10 shots with a weapon and the boss needed 6 or 7 it would be better. I suppose I'm rallying for the casuals and not the tryhards. I don't consider myself either, but would like an average person to be able to pick up the game and do ok and not get frustrated.

MM3 by far. Better design in stage, better boss fights. MM2's fights just felt like the boss either jumped around a fuck ton right on top of you or just played a zoning game the entire fight.

MM3 also has sliding, more (and better) levels, and rectified the issue of having to die if you didn't have enough ammo in certain spots. I know 3 still had spots like that, but they were a little more forgiving.

>> No.2149592

no, its longer in general.

MM2 stages each have roughly 4 or 5 different enemies and takes about 60sec to complete. MM3 levels are more complex and have more variety.

the only challenging level in MM2 is first half of Quick Man. And only a few levels are constant enemy placement. (wood man and air man) It wasnt until 3-6 that capcom really pushed the NES to the max and caused it to lag.
