The HD remake is still in the works, I think.

This is just an update to the original game, rebuilt from its source with support for moderns systems, higher resolutions, some minor graphical improvements and hud changes. No more fucking around with third party patches.

Outcast 1.1 has been recompiled from the original source code and improved to run smoothly on today's computers.The main improvements compared to the original version are: multithreaded voxel renderer for higher performances, software bilinear filtering on polygonal meshes, part of the HUD redesigned to match higher resolutions, new high-resolution sky paintings, new launcher, native support of xbox gamepad, user-friendly controller configuration, a lot of bugs fixed and improved stability.

I know that, just playing a 720p game at a 1080p monitor will look curiously blurry and jagged.

can't you change your monitor's hardware settings to a lower res mode?

alternatively you could just find a CRT monitor which should have no problems playing at non-native resolutions.

Gave it a whirl.

>Game will do 1080p if your monitor supports it. If not, it will do up to your max monitor resolution.
>AA and DoF options removed. No apparent way to turn them on for now. Bump mapping option also removed but appears to be on regardless.
>Draw distance greatly increased. Introduces noticeable popping/clipping of distant objects and land chunks, exposes edges of maps which looks ugly.
>Distance fog pushed back as a result, areas now lacking their original atmosphere. Very noticeable in the starting village.
>Water is more transparent, making the effect less impressive.
>HUD is nicely updated and inventory is easier to navigate.
>Gamepad controls work like a charm.
>Mouse is not locked when running in windowed mode.
>Performance is solid, no bugs so far.

Needs some work. The mouse issue is the most annoying since it will result in you clicking outside the game the majority of the time. The rest is mostly visual stuff which doesn't really impact on the gameplay but would be nice to have options to keep it a little more faithful to the original.
