Eh, I'd say it's subjective whether a redesign is good or bad regarding the art styles; there are clearly different art styles in those two images.

I don't agree with him that "that's not Dixie Kong" but I personally do think the old art looks nicer, not that I have anything against the new one. At least they remembered Dixie in DKCTF, I still want my Lanky/Chunky/K. Rool/Kiddy to return.

I've played it back in the day and I found it a solid game. A decent loose C64 port of SMB with some fun quirks of its own. Worth playing.
