The lengths they went to in order to dejapanize the games of the time could get really ridiculous. Come on, was the idea of the anime stylistic so alien to the American demographic that they had to flat-out remake games from the ground up for it? Goddamn that's a good playthrough. I can never get combos like that, I always find myself cherry tapping with lots and lots and lots of small chains, and then try to get a few small combos whenever there's a huge pile-up and I have the time for it, but I can never do it like in the beginning of that clip.

I think I reached my limit when I 1cc'd Very Hard mode of Puzzle League, and that's not even the hardest difficulty of that game. Fun as hell to play at least, just wish I wasn't such a scrub.

I know it wouldn't be retro, but are there any games in the series newer than N64? I'd love to try to sharpen my skills by, say, playing online against someone at this game.

As a Transformers fan: Fuck you. Transformers is American, or at the very least, 50% American.

The original 84-85 toys were not developed as "Transformers." They were disparate toylines called Diaclone and Microchange. Hasbro saw them at a toy fair, bought the rights, and paid Marvel Comics (primarily Jim Shooter and Bob Budiansky, who wrote the comics) to come up with a storyline for these unrelated robots to fight each other.

The comics were 100% produced in America, and written by Americans. (Except the UK comics by Simon Furman and Marvel UK.) The cartoons were 100% written by Americans (Flint Dille et al) and animated by a variety of animation studios, some in Japan and some in China.

When Hasbro ran out of toys (1986) they had new characters created by the writers of the movie (Flint Dille), Hasbro's guys, and Floro Dery, who is foreign but not Japanese and worked for Sunbow/Marvel. These designs were then ENGINEERED by Japanese people who worked at Takara.

These days Hasbro and Takara 50% create most of the toy content that isn't based on cartoon designs (American) or live action movie designs (definitely American). So you can fuck off.

the transformers as we know them, the actual characters and the factions, are 100% American. their character profiles were created as a work for hire by marvel comics. what makes the transformers, "the transformers" instead of "random Japanese toylines featuring transforming robots", was created in america

The japanese version in that comparison was the original. The english one was redone for the US release of the NES version of Ultima 3.

This was the original western cover art of the computer versions.

Fun fact: Many of the illustrations included in the instruction manuals of the original Ultima games were ripped off by small Japanese developers and as used as game artwork, which Richard Garriott discovered when he visited trade shows in Japan and was shown his own company's assets.
