I've never seen that controller in my life and I've been a collector since the N64 was released, worked at Babbage's at the time even.

Anyway, based Hori is generally accepted as best. Regular N64 controllers are certainly questionable on a number of levels.

It's pretty hard not to improve on the 5200 controller although there are only two and they both fetch a pretty handsome price. The problem with the N64s controller is that hardware designers and software designers were very much on different pages. The hardware designers added the analog stick to an already proven design and adapted as best they could to support it, using their powerful left-brains and somewhat weak right-brains.

Then the software designers got a hold of it, said "Jesus this is great!" and made it the default control for damned near everything, which begs for the controller to be redesigned outward from the analog stick just for some reason that never happened and to this day, most of us are stuck with neptune's controller when we just want to play some Banjo or something.

Irresponsive, spongy d-pad that barely ever inputs diagonals correctly and the L1/L2 and R1/R2 placement is fucking stupid (The 2 buttons are on the inside where your index fingers rest, and you have to reach to hit the 1 buttons on the outside; pretty much the opposite of how your fingers rest on the standard controller)

The light-up buttons are neat but it's a novelty and nothing more. Before they made that video I hadn't touched the video since like 2004, then I busted it out again to make sure I wasn't wrong, and yeah, it's just as bad as I remember it being.
