Why? Because of the lie that it's "a bad rondo port"?

It's nor a port, is a completely new game, different levels, different bosses, different evertyhing except the characters and the first level (and only marginally, the whole first level is also totally different in design)

and it's a great Classicvania.

Stop parroting opinions from the interned, yo.

I played it years before I ever knew Rondo even existed. I could never get into it like I could the others, but this was also 18 years ago, I was 12 in the and my most recent Castlevania experience at the time was Super CV4 which I was a complete autist for. Maybe I'll give it another try someday, but from my memory I did not enjoy it.

Love that Metroid II cover something hard.

Give Dracula X on the SNES another try. It's a different game than Rondo of Blood and is actually one of the hardest Classicvanias.

People have a hateboner for Dracula X because "waaah we didn't get Rondo of Blood in the west and instead we got the shit SNES port", but that's completely wrong and I hope someday people stop thinking so negatively about Dracula X because of that.

I'll definitely give it another go at some point then. Really want to find a good deal on the game to build on my CV collection anyway. Will probably just import and save a chunk.

Only game my parents ever played with me right here. Had the Atari ST version as a kid and we would sit at the computer and figure out the puzzles together, or my mum would play it when she got home from work before my dad came to get me from school and she would tell us what she'd figured out. Good times.

Fuck Eric Chahi for what he did to me with From Dust.

These SFC and N64 japanese games are titled Yokouchuu and Yokouchuu II. They are sort of adventure games with lots of text, and I think the N64 one has a lot of audio clips so you need to be good level at moon to play it.
I'm not sure but I think the theme is similar to S.O.S, instead I think it's more horror/murder mystery rather than escaping from a sinking ship.

It's definitely a game for experienced CV players.

Those who liked CV1 and 3 should love Dracula X due to its controls and level design, and bosses.
It even has some alternate paths to make the game more fun to replay.

Maybe it's because it was my first Castlevania, but even though after having played Rondo of Blood I can see Rondo is the overall better game, I say Dracula X should be valorated more for what it is: a completely new Classicvania made after the same setting as Rondo. But not even the gameplay is the same, You can do the backflip and everything Ritcher can do on Rondo, except here he feels stiffer, heavier. Definitely reminds me of Simon on the NES games, whereas in Rondo he feels lighter, swifter. Which isn't bad either, in fact, it was probably a step forward in the franchise, but Ritcher in Dracula X is like playing Simon modo.
Also, no Maria. You can rescue her, but no play as her. No babby mode.

Well, you are right about it being the hardest Castlevania game. The final boss is impossible. And the rest of the game isn't easy, either. The insane difficulty is actually WHY I don't like it, it is so frustrating that it is barely fun. I don't mind stiff controls, either, that's castlevania, but it is way stiffer than Bloodlines or CV 4.

Graphics and music rock, though. And if you want a challenge, it has it.

Anyway, contributing.

It is one of SSI's goldbox D&D games re-skinned into a sci-fi setting. So expect an 80s DOS game on your Genesis. The graphics are better on the Genesis (vs. EGA) and so is the music (vs. PC Speaker), but it is really primitive looking and sounding. DESPITE this, it is actually pretty fun if you can put yourself in the right frame of mind for it.

The game is best known for a controversy regarding the image of Queen Gremla where a visible nipple that can be seen in its advertising and inlay artwork (which has originally appeared on the cover of Heavy Metal (May 1984 - Vol.8 No.2) called Cover Ere Comprimee and is attributed to Luis Royo).[6][7] Oli Frey, the art editor for Crash magazine, painted over the original bare-breasted image with a thin grey corset so that it could be printed, but retailers still demanded that logos be placed over the nipples.[8] Game Over won the awards for best advert and best inlay of the year, according to the readers Crash.[9]

>Chris George : It helps when Sega hires the Japanese animation studio responsible for some of the best episodes of the series to hand-draw all the animation frames for the Batman and Robin characters. We would scan them in, and I was responsible for going over them frame-by-frame to turn the scanned drawings into sprites. One of the surprising parts of this was that the animation studio actually sent us all the frames (thousands of them) as original pencil drawings instead of photo-copies.

Why can't we have such nice things anymore.

George was the artist at clockwork tortoise.
