Hey /vr/, I'm with my friend at his old house and turns out he has this Sony Trinitron KV-27S40. I know you guys are rock-hard for Trinitrons so is it worth taking? Admittedly, I know jack shit about CRTs but I just thought I'd ask. He's totally cool with me having it.

If you're in the market for a CRT then yeah, take it. If you're too stupid to understand why people care about them, don't take it just because a bunch of nerds on the internet talk about them all the time.

What do you guys recommend looking for in the way of a CRT TV?

Looking at picking one up for setting my PS2 up next to my desk.

Don't be a prick when you don't even know how to crosslink. Some people are rightly intimidated by /crt/. Over the course of /vr/s life, I've
>discovered the virtues of CRTs for 240p/480i content
>taken advantage of the current market to get 3 PVMs and pick up truly top-tier 99 cent consumer CRTs at thrift stores
>participated in /crt/ until I know pretty much everything there is to know
>had enough of /crt/ and rarely participate now
There's SO MUCH info that someone who just wants the basics could be overwhelmed. There's a decent infographic but it's not even posted in the current thread.

For a PS2, the simple answer is you want something with component (YPbPr) inputs (assuming you live in the USA). Beyond that, you want something that's the right size for your application. Small CRTs with component input can be hard to come by. I found a 13" (Trinitron) Wega for 99 cents that's my little buddy even though it has no Svideo (Y/c) but Magnetboxes are a lot more common to find under 20 inch with component inputs. Also worth noting is that even though I love my 13" Wega, getting a CRT without Svideo in makes it a lot trickier getting superior quality out of most retro consoles. For the majority, Svideo is the best quality that can be achieved for US TVs without relatively expensive cables/converters and even hardware modification so it really depends on the console - but component connections are definitely the best and perfect for PS2, as well as for Wii - a popular cheap easy way to get solid retro emulation with authentic output

Aww. Too big of a URL for you? All I did was link a place where OP would get a better answer. The CRT thread isn't a secret club where you can only discuss PVMs and not ask beginner questions. It's just a place to get better information.

read everything here and you'll be pretty much set.

The infographic isn't posted because too many people have problems with it, and it tries to stuff too much information into too small of space. Also deeming one specific line as an end all be all without giving so much as a mention to CONDITION being extremely important.
The pastebin is supposed to be a much more comprehensive replacement for it, but I will agree that as it stands it's too long winded and needs a tl;dr version for either the OP or right at the beginning.

That is, assuming, that you're talking about this one.
