Anyone here owns Doubutsu no mori/Animal Forest/Crossing for N64?

Any noticeable differences with the GC version besides the extra content that was added later? Does it use an internal clock too?

You can play it English: http://www.romhacking.net/translations/1581/

>> No.2103363

Yes, it has an internal clock. I can't remember all the differences, but there was no museum, you can store only one item in closets and of course a lot of holidays.

That patch is far from complete. It's only a start, really.

If you go here, it lists the main differences between the two http://animalcrossing.wikia.com/wiki/D%C5%8Dbutsu_no_Mori_%28game%29

Thats because AC has a ridiculous amount of text. Its a long process of translating, especially for hobby level translators, I'd assume. I hope they finish it, eventually. I've always wanted to play it.

>> No.2105349

>>2105334
I imagine it's not the translation that's difficult -- I'm sure you could just recycle most of the text from the Gamecube version besides the few differences between the GCN and N64 versions. Most of the trouble with translating Japanese games without the source code is getting an English script viewable in the game to start with.

Slowbeef wrote a really interesting piece on this when he worked on Policenauts.

Oh? I didn't know that. Link to article? Sounds interesting.

The logistics of getting a game translated and localized has always been an interesting thing. Think of all the games that are made in Japan and never reach state side.

You're welcome

>> No.2105420

Would you guys recommend trying out the N64 version first or go straight for the GCN version

>> No.2105428

>>2105420

Given that the N64 version isn't completely done in english, go straight to the GCN version. It's basically the same game with even more stuff.

It starts on this part and keeps going for the next eleven parts. Incredibly long, but a very insightful read.

Can conform; this was fascinating and thoroughly enjoyable. Thanks anon!

>> No.2107572

N64 version had:

-No Tortimer
-No Museum, Tailor Shop or associated characters
-No second story or basement for your house

Fun fact, since the GameCube animal crossing is based on the N64 architecture, the whole game loads as soon as you boot it up. You can keep playing from then on even without the disk inserted.

I love Animal Crossing to death, but I feel after they stopped using low res textures it lost a lot of magic. I wish we got the 64 version here. The graphics are so cute.

>The live version of DJ K.K. uses a different set of guitar riffs, which were most likely changed due to their similarities with the song "Get Ready for This" by 2 Unlimited.
