Be honest /vr/. How many NES games have you actually beaten?

It's okay if you haven't beaten a single NES game.

We all understand. The games were very difficult.

Somewhere between 10-20 (rough guess). I actually haven't seriously attempted to play through any NES games for a couple decades. For sure I finished all these as a teenager or young adult:

Bionic Commando
Blaster Master
Castle of Dragon
Castlevania 2
Dragon Warrior
Faxanadu
Final Fantasy
Metal Gear
Milon's Secret Castle
Ninja Gaiden 1-2
Operation Wolf
SMB 1-2
Zelda 1-2

Then there's the games I didn't play on NES because I had already finished them on Amstrad CPC:

Ghosts 'n Goblins
Gryzor (aka Contra)
Kung-Fu Master

Also finished various other CPC games, but I dunno if these ever got NES versions (Bruce Lee, Commando, Ikari Warriors, Yie Ar Kung-Fu...)

I always keep battling with myself if I should or shouldn't use a guide for FFs or any RPGs/JRPGs for that matter. I just really want to get everything and not loose nothing permanently on my first run, but at same time I want the surprise effect too you know, of jumping right in the game with no clue of how it'll work.

Then I realized something that kinda works out for me. I do like to replay all the games I find great (like the first FF, the simple mechanics and the sprite work just feels great). So I simply use a guide just once on a game, in order to get everything possible, without loosing anything. Then, every time I feel like doing a replay on it, I don't use anything, not even a single internet tip. I rely only on my reasoning skills, the official manual and memory of my first playthrough with the guide. Maybe this works easy for me because of my awful memory for games I haven't played for a year or so. Most of the times, it feels like the very first time when actually, it isn't (hello early Alzheimer's disease).

No. It's like they had some good ideas but they completely fucked up the execution. The problem is EVERYTHING in the game is random, even the damage you take is random. The last level is so badly designed. There's one part where you have to avoid one of the bomb guys, but as soon as he leaves the screen he respawns, so you have to gradually inch the screen to the right - trigger the bomb, walk back left to avoid getting one-shotted, walk to the right and hope you can make the screen move just a little bit before the next guy drops a bomb. Oh, and you're jumping over randomly generated barrels with randomly generated speeds while all this is going on. It's ridiculous.

And those were the ones I beat on original hardware growing up. On emulator I've been able to beat a bunch I never got a chance to play when I was younger. I've seen the ending of a few games I've never been able to beat by cheating, but I'm still working to clear them clean.

Around 60 or so retro games.

>> No.2104094

Probably around 50-60. I moved on pretty quickly from the NES because of other systems coming out at the time (I was born in '89). The only games I've come back to after all of these years are Mega Man, Zelda, and a few classic platformers.

Kind of unfortunate.

I was a Genesis kid. Only got on the Nintendo wagon at N64. I beat my entire Genesis library, more or less.

Jurassic Park
Maximum Carnage
The way shittier Spider Man game
Sonic Spinball
Sonic 2, didn't get all the emeralds though
Power Rangers: the game
Power Rangers: The Movie: the game
Comix Zone

Exception: Sonic 1. Fuck that water stage.

You did well

>Exception: Sonic 1. Fuck that water stage.
It's a bit challenging but not too difficult. Try again some time - you'll find that the stages you played the least still feel fresh and fun to explore.

Working at a lot of retro game stores, I've heard countless amounts of people say and honestly believe this.

So many people also think that black label Final Fantasy VII is worth "at least x-hundred dollars these days". TFW they see the copy in the store for $30 and start freaking out on me that I shouldn't be selling it that unbelievably cheap.

So yeah, wouldn't be surprised if it was just ignorant.
