What's the best way to find garage sales in my area?

Local newspaper or their website. Or you can just drive down the main drags of your town and look for yard sale signs stuck to stop signs and such.

Check the classifieds in your local newspaper.

I made a living buying from garage sales for a while. Craigslist was the best source in my area. Make sure to actually ask the people selling what it is you're looking for specifically: Sometimes they won't have it on display for a number of reasons.

It depends on your area. Where you at?
Craigslist is almost always the best source but there's no reason why you shouldn't also be checking your local newspaper.

I'm currently in a shitty, small town in Indiana for college. The thrift shop here sucks compared to the many to which I have access in my hometown, Pittsburgh. I'll be going back soon for break, and I will be vigorously hunting all over the place for cheap games. I'm just having trouble finding anything while I'm in bumfuck nowhere.

Also look on facebook for things like "trash and treasue" and "yard sale" preceded by the name of your city. Not as reliable as craigslist, but I've found that when things do come up, it's a better deal.

Pittsburgh PA? The northeast is better for collecting anything really. Though the Midwest isn't bad just spread really far apart.

You can try getting out of your house

Yeah, Pittsburgh PA. I'm not home much, but when I am I go out for hours upon hours each day in search of awesome deals. Where I am currently the two nearest cities are over an hour away. It's frustrating.

I don't want to try to steal your thunder at all, but what ARE some good thrift shops around Pittsburgh? The only one I visit semi-regularly is Red White and Blue on 51, near Mt Oliver.

Ya I'm from upstate NY. Finding games is great up there. You get lots of ebay priced shit but there's so much of it. Now I'm in the south and while I find stuff it's nothing to what I see when I'm back in the northeast.

Thriftique and Community Thrift Center are pretty reliable. I found pristine copies of Earthbound and Chrono Trigger at these two places for like 5 bucks.

>> No.2057340

Might not be quite as useful for video games, but don't completely write off estate sales and estate auctions. If you're a good customer you can build up a relationship with the people running them and get advance warning when they have something you're interested in. Also you'll quickly learn which estate companies are good and which to avoid.

I'm sorry, not Thriftique. I meant American Thrift Center in West Mifflin.

Local classifieds (print and online) and craigslist are your best bet for individual sales.

It's also useful to check local church and subdivision websites. Many of them hold collective rummage sales a couple times a year and they're not always well-advertised.

2 types of garage sales I stay away from. Garage sales at apartments and churches. Always absolute garbage.

Google.com

Church sales are like thrift shops. The same few people will always be setting the prices, so some are good and some are bad. You just need to get to know the local ones.

Yeah Church sales usually have fuck all for games but when you find the one that does you'll only pay pocket change.
