Beat 'em ups suck. There, I said it.

The genre is nothing but unfair, quarter-munching garbage.

There's got to be some skill involved, but I never figured out what that was. Every one I played had one or two very cheap, simple, repetitive moves to beat nearly all the enemies. It felt like I was either cheating or losing all the time.

You would think that if you'd played garbage like Final Fight.

Streets of Rage 2, Final Fight 3, Guardians, Guardian Heroes, Shadows Over Mystara, Die Hard Arcade, Dynamite Cop, Zombie's Revenge, SpikeOut. All much, much better Beat 'em ups.

Final Fight 1 alone - Haggar. Grab everyone, jump, piledrive.

Final Fight 1 two players - Cody, do the combo glitch (two punches, turn around fast, two punches)

Fight Fight 2 - Haggar

Final Fight 3 - Anyone

I was actually thinking of the original SoR when I made this thread but just grabbed the first picture I found by running "beat 'em ups" through Google Image.

Beat em uups are some of the most fun you can have playing video games with friends.
>easy to pick up and play

The only problem with Cyborg Justice was that the controls weren't very arcade-y, which is probably because they wanted the game to have a huge move set for a 3 button pad.

Other than that, it was really a pretty sweet game, just not the best of the genre.

The "build your robot" mechanic was mind blowing for me, and I loved the fact that you could not only beat robots, but tear their parts off and use them for yourself, or you could even rebuild a defeated enemy! And then beat them up a second time. I don't think any other game allowed you to specifically humiliate opponents like that, until the Mercy move in MK3. But in Cyborg Justice, it also had tactical value, because if you put an enemy together, you could still tear off their torso, which gave you extra health. So if you accidentally killed an enemy with normal attacks or lasers and whatnot, you could rebuild them to do a proper finishing move.

If it is a fighting game you won't, as you have to replay against the boss for two rounds again. At some point you will figure out what you need to do in order to beat him, good players tend to realize quickly. In the case of a beat'em up, even if you bruteforce you can make ridiculous amounts of damage in any boss or group of enemies during your invincibility time or even using desperate moves, if you have nothing to lose. It's even hard to think some people don't do it, is instinctive.

>> No.2030613

>>2030579
Most games are more fun, or just fun, with friends, but the case with beat em ups is that playing with friends decreases the difficulty, making the games much more fun to just pick up and play. If you delve into them and get good at them, you'll find that many beat em ups feature a surprising amount of depth, not just in the moves you can perform, but more importantly in understanding and exploiting enemy attack patterns. Hardly anybody is willing to do that, mostly because beat em ups are so unforgiving, so most people consider the genre to be unfair and just not fun playing alone.

A group of indie devs get a team together to make a game. No one asking how you are going sell and promote this game when one of your main characters is near nude?

Would steam, desura or wherever else let you sell on their stores?

Got good answers for when sjw`s complain, or for when rational people ask if you are just using this character design to stir up controversy?

>Then at some point in the process the artist comes back with naked women as a character design and the rest of the team do not have any questions? No one asking how you are going sell and promote this game when one of your main characters is near nude?
The whole game has come from a failed comic series attempt. I didn't want the characters to die and started adapted the script to work as a side scrolling beat em up. As for promotion and getting the game out there, I guess we'll worry about that once we get closer to completion. If people get offended just by her being naked, wait until they find out that she actually gets impregnated by demons and gives birth to dark familiars as part of her move set.
As for SJW types, the character is totally pro woman. She comes from a sect of all female nature witches, doesn't wear clothes just because other people want her too. I mean, she fights along side the others even when she's pregnant (she loses speed, but her magic gets stronger)

Thanks for the good response though guys. Some concept art for you.

No, no website or promotion until everything works how it shold work. Plus the art assets are slow to materialize so a lot of stuff is just placeholder type things for now. Thanks for the encouragement though,

Yeah I can totally see how a character created solely for the purposes of sexual reproduction would be viewed in a positive light by todays SJWs.

I think the whole SJW thing is out of hand but you're pretty much actively inciting them with this. Your response to the criticism offered so far has been, at best, stunning. I hope you aren't the PR guy for this project.

Good luck either way, hope you accomplish whatever it is you're trying to do.

I just finished one cps2 machine, just for fighting games.

Now I have to clean this bad boy up. One of the finest in four player beat em up action. The monitor is a little wonky, and the buttons are sticky. I'll probably just replace everything instead of cleaning it up.

What point are you trying to argue here? It doesn't match the conversation.

Person A says the games are shit on by everyone. Person B says that people who have reviewed the game (and I'm sure he's talking beyond big sites as well) like it.

What are you arguing here?
