My alternate setup. I am the king of broken PVMs and this is the only one I've gotten that wasn't destroyed. Not sure why I bother with an 8" monitor, I have a perfectly mediocre consumer 27" Trinitron.

Anyways, replaying Mario 64 since I haven't played it since 2006 or so.

I made this about 4 months ago after moving into my new place. The CRT is a Toshiba something or other, its ok, but has obviously seen some use.
>tfw no pvm or even trinitrons in my area
black things in the case that you cant make out are a 7800, Saturn, model 1 HD Genesis with a model 2 Sega CD attached, and N64. Not pictured (since they're not hooked up) is a snes jr, 2 2600's, a ps1-1001, and a portable black&whit radio/tv. That monitor in the far bottom right corner is actually a trinitron (the only one I've ever found ;_;, and its hooked up to my 98SE/DOS rig.
That mac was tossed in a closet about 10 minuets after I took that picture, and hasn't come out since.

theres also a 3ds xl, psp (that I have since hooked up to the tv), two gba's, a gba sp, and a purple gbc in the cabinet on my game shelf.
And the cabinets under my TV house two TRS-80's; a CoCo model 1 and model 3. Along with a bunch of blank data cassettes, about 100 empty DVD cases, and a PS1 driving wheel.

My current setup. All my composite consoles run to my CRT and I have a VGA box for my Dreamcast. Pretty much everything is hooked up at once except for the Nintendo consoles under my CRT, which all use the same AV cable anyways. All in all it's pretty convenient.

>> No.2016743

My current retro setup is a Philips CRT on the floor of my living room hooked up to and SNES, NES, and Genesis due to the lack of a proper stand.

How does everyone feel about media furniture? We have one of those HDTV benches that everyone uses now, but it's not deep enough to put a 20"+ CRT on. Pre-Bench TV stands/entertainment centers look horribly dated to me.

Do you go the full effect by using an old school TV stand or just use something modern?

Are those lights always on?

Do you need to slide the GC or Genny M1 out to insert games?

Can Sonic 3 & Knuckles fit on the M1?

Where do you store the controllers?

Is screen obstruction from cords an issue with the higher shelved consoles?

Have you considered safety brackets to keep them from taking a dive in case you let children operate them?

Nope, lights aren't always one. Surge protectors and light switches are actually in the drawers for easy access.

I tried to space the shelves out so I don't need to slide anything out. GC is a little tight but easy enough to reach. I actually don't know about trying sonic stackable stuff though.

Controllers are in this cabinet.

For systems higher up I have controller extensions.

Never thought about brackets. I don't have kids and prefer them to not be in there anyway.

It's great for when friends come over or when I want to re-watch a movie during a boring section of a game or a RPG.

I got the chance to buy both for 20 euros each and so far like them. They have direct SCART input and each monitor has a bandridge scartswitch that slides perfectly into the sides. It's really easy and satisfying to change games.

I just moved into my new apartment, so I'm still in the midst of setting everything up, so excuse the mess, and the bad color, I have no light in the living room at the moment. I took this picture when I first got this entertainment cabinet, which explains the saggy door I've straightened out since then. Looks so fucking rad, I love CRT entertainment centers, the cabinet doors swing open and then slide into the cabinet to reveal the TV. The small drawer in the middle flips down to reveal whatever you want put in there, but also slides out like a normal drawer.

It's all a work in progress though. I don't have too much money unfortunately.

Thanks.

I got the 20'' by a stroke of sheer luck...The seller had posted a picture of a 14" model, item description only stated "Sony monitor".
I can only guess they mixed up what exactly I bought since I got a 20" model in the mail. They were a medial surplus company, so i guess they don't have much experience with these monitors. It was packed fantastically, though.

The 8" has seen much better days, though. Needs the chroma cranked up to get any color out of it, s-video in has a weird sharpness issue, purity issues, etc etc.
I'd like to get an 8" BVM in good condition for a mobile setup.

Would also kill for a 25" or bigger set that will handle 480P, as well as a 14" set that I can take to uni with me

He's been gaming on an old 27-inch curved glass SD Sanyo, and I'd been hunting for a while for a nice HD set to replace it with. He was floored by the difference when I set his PS3 up with 1080i component, really phenominal picture on it.

And this is my main tv, Wega KV-32FS120. N64 and SNES use s-video, and the Wii and PS2 use component. I haven't used this set for gaming much since I got the PVM.

3 of the four posts have the type of "tv" right in them, and one of those even gives a model number.

Sony PVMs; Professional Video Monitors.

They're RGB Monitors(not TVs) that were originally used for such tasks editing video for broadcast, monitoring security cameras, and medical applications such as endoscopy.
It also turns out they're amazing for retro gaming primarily due to clarity(thanks to accepting the highest quality video signal that most old consoles produce, RGB) as well as producing very sharp pictures.

The fact that they look really good in most settings and are built very sturdily a bonuses.

>tfw basementstation

I keep my retrostation with my battlestation so I can continuously shitpost while playing /vr/.

Recently got this PVM-1910 which caused me to seriously move things around. Removed my 14M2U from my setup and trying to sell it because I don't really need it anymore. Everything on that shelf is hooked up to that 14" BVM. The 1910 I use to play from my couch. Have to find a better spot for my Vectrex after getting this 1910.
Have another 14" in my bedroom.
Eventually planning on selling my 1353MD and 14M2U to get another 20".

Will eventually have the BVM on that shelf, the 1910 in my bedroom, and whatever 20" I get for couch use. I don't need 3 14" monitors nor do I have the room anymore.

That big Intergraph monitor I use for /vr/ PC games.

Not to derail the thread too much but they are KRK Rokit 8s and I love them. I'm sure audiophiles or actual studio engineers might talk bad about them, but for my uses and my budget they are perfect.

Bottom keyboard is an M-Audio Keyrig MIDI controller that I can use in Ableton Live or any other DAW. The top one is an old Micromoog that my dad kept since his days in the band.

For SNES the space a UVG takes up isn't that much more, but for N64 yeah you're using a lot more.

To me, its worth it. My collection isn't that big, but if you were one of the guys who has a wall full of game it would get crazy pretty quickly.

I'm not really the kind of person to get duplicates of a game, or "every game in existence," but I still have a crap load of games. Pic related, and that's unfortunately the only place I can fit a shelf. I don't know, maybe I'll figure something out in terms of spacing. I need to change a few things, and I also need a new shelf to hold my consoles and HDTV + Sony PVM side by side.

That shelf space is multiplied by about 4 or 5 and that's all the space I have, which is currently being used up by other gen console games. MAYBE I can find some space? I'll think about it one day, because I really am jealous of what you have haha.

ask my dad, he kept picking them up at garage sales when I was a kid. we actually had five SNES's and three N64s at one point. I don't really have anywhere else to keep the extra consoles for now so they just sit with the others

as for the controllers I'm thinking about trying something like pic related. your bin idea is interesting but I don't know if it'll work, I guess I'll have to wait and see once everything's set up

>We also appear to share the same model CRT. How's yours holding up? My picture seems to be waning (diagonal lines, minor fading in and out)

it works really well. the only issue I've had with it so far was some weird ghosting effect on the crosshair in metroid prime tilogy on the wii, but as far as /vr/ stuff goes I haven't had any issues

Having four SNESes certainly isn't a terrible problem to have. I'd keep at least one covered up to stave off yellowing.

your container, if it's big enough, seems like a way to go; I personally would get something opaque, at least. That's probably just me, though; I think seeing them all lying around would sort of defeat the purpose of putting them away. I'm more about "a place for everything and everything in its place" rather than having everything on display or ready to grab at a moment's notice.
