Blue Magic is fun and exciting.
Just because you get new classes doesn't mean previous tiers are OP.
Sometimes its beneficial to go to the Bare class because you can equip anything on them. This is useful early on when you get a whip on a particularily hard boss.

That it's the culmination of everything Final Fantasy. It's a celebration of everything that came before it, taking the best elements of 1 - 4 and making it 100 times better. It's a true masterpiece and marked the end of traditional FF games (until IX that is), in the sense that later games went on a different direction.

Once you get to the desert, after the Fire Crystal, you'll encounter some Chimeras enemies, they have the Aqua Rake (or Aqua Breath) spell, which is like the only Water Elemental spell you can get bar summon magic IIRC. It's really strong too, so be sure to get hit by it as a Blue Mage at least once.

>> No.2007391

The Freelancer class gains the abilities of any class that you master. I.e. Mastering the Thief class lets your Freelancer dash while holding the button, mastering the Geomancer class lets your Freelancer avoid damage from trap floor, etc...

Get Barefist from the Monk class early on, and you can punch things to death with all of your mages without needing to use magic all the time. It also boosts the Strength of your current class to match the Monk's Strength, so they can do more damage with weapons, too, if need be.

It's highly overrated by a vocal minority. The customization is not nearly as good as is claimed and the smartest way to go through is by using as few classes as possible so you can switch to Freelancer/Mime ASAP and skullfuck the one area with a bit of difficulty. The only instance where careful and thoughtful usage of the job system is necessary is the two optional bosses, and if you've been building your characters right, they'll be easy anyways.

The plot and characters are cardboard and the soundtrack, while having a few very memorable pieces, is mostly inferior to the other two SNES FFs.

FF6 is like, if you took the jobs from FF5 and made them a different playable character. It also focuses on DRAMA and minigames/gimmicks more than just oldschool dungeon crawling fun. It is technically more advanced (graphics mostly), but it replaces FUN with STORYLINE.

That said, if you didn't like them to begin with, it won't make much of a difference, but that's the big difference between gameplay (You can almost always improve on it or add more to it) vs story.

1. Bartz is the best protagonist in all of Final Fantasy
2. Galuf is badass
3. keep experimenting with different classes and abilities, because each and any job, even the most useless ones, can either be turned into a rape machine, or can give you an ability that turns some other class into a rape machine.

Even if sometimes only against two or three enemies in the game, but they are still invaluable.

For ex. Control skill + Blue Mage can be used to learn some of the most useful magics, or even do perfect kills on otherwise impossible to defeat enemies.

- get an item like Turtle Shell, Dragon Fang, Dark Matter? it's a !Mix item, learn the right combos and there's almost no fight in the game you can't simplify.

- when fighting Atomos, cast the Sleep Sword Magic spell; it'll put him to sleep and make the fight a thousand times easier.

- there's two non-legendary Weapons of note near the end of the game; A Knight Sword that gets weaker if you run, or a Dagger that gets stronger if you run. The Dagger is almost always better in the end.

- Steal. You're fairly likely to come across an enemy with good shit to steal.

- Skip Heavy torso armor, Any class that wears it can also equip medium torso armor, which tends to offer stat bonuses. You're still stuck with Heavy Helmets though.

- Fire/Ice/Thunder Rods cast Fire3/Ice3/Bolt3 when broken. you can use this as a crutch if you're using a magic heavy party.

- Level the Monk class up to 2/3 to get a passive ability called Barehanded/Brawler; Equipping this gives a boost to your attack as long as you're unarmed, this is a great ability for White Mages if you don't have any magic secondaries or want to conserve MP.

Some of the old tricks in the game (can't list any off hand right now) no longer work and the game is (in my opinion) ugly.

Maybe look into android emulators to play that way instead?

Stick with the SNES or GBA version.
It uses the snes music which is nice.
Content and translation wise it's a port of the GBA version with new graphics.

Rapid fire still never misses but I didn't' check for anything else.

If you're on android check out Final Fantasy Dimensions as well.
It's kind of like a very well done RPG maker FFV fanfic. It has a more refined but I dare say 'casualised' job system but keeping that in mind I had fun playing it.

Maybe I should play this again. I got really far like 10 years ago, but got stuck in a mountain near the endgame and never finished it.
Also these pictures got my interest:
