Keep in mind I SUCK at buildings..Or I just have no time for it and would rather build coasters..Pick two. Anyway my coasters are named after old coin op and obscure Atari 2600 video games. And here we go.

First is Venture with its two buildings..took forever..Venture was an old coin op game where you went from room to room fighting monsters with a bow and arrow. And yes I see the spots where I need to fill in with the walls..now

I just let the coasters peter out so when they get to the stations they are going about 20 MPH so they don't crash when there is a Brake Failure. They make barely any difference to excitement. And Millennium Force is
a) a lot shorter than your coaster so having only one train going around at once is feasible and, and

>> No.1988921

>>1988908
The benefits to block sectioning outweigh the negatives, in my experience. With continuous circuit, you can only fit as many trains as will fit in the station, while a block section ride can have as many as you can work in. I find that the efficiency and safety is better to have than the excitement boost.

Drawbacks with block sectioning are, as stated, the excitement decrease. It's also a different challenge to make a block section ride... you can't just slap down a brake run anywhere and call it a day. It can be a bit difficult to get the hang of.

An efficient block sectioned ride shouldn't have trains stopping at every section.

Yeah, I always have an issue when I use Block Breaks as far as it will hold a train at the lift hill while it waits for the other train to complete the circuit. I like having the flow of the trains non stop to get more peeps on the ride. I only use them when I want more trains like the Hypercoaster or Gigia..I have them on Vanguard to have 3 trains but had to tweak the crap out of it so it would not stop on the lift hill..Ill just use regular breaks if I need to slow the train down

> sucking block brakes' dick this hard
Block brakes are incredibly annoying to integrate into your coaster and make everything unnecessarily janky. Most of the time I don't bother with them. Inspecting every 10 minutes and making sure you have some normal brakes and helices leading up to your station, along with minimum wait times, are often a better solution imo. I'd hate to mess up the flow of a great coaster I just built just so it's 'safer'. Coasters are meant to feel dangerous.

>> No.1988935

>>1988931

Then you need to space them out better. It's sometimes also good reducing the number of trains below the maximum if you have a bunch of block sections. I tend to have 2 sets before the station, the station, the lift hill and one mid-track, which gives me 5 sections, and run 3 trains on them. If trains are constantly being held atop the lift hill, increase the minimum wait time in the station.

Like BlueBalled said, it takes some practice but it's possible to get them to work really well.

>> No.1988936

>>1988931
It works better in real life because train loading/unloading isn't as fast as it is in RCT. Ride attendants will come by and check restraints and shit. Trains rarely, if ever, leave the station as fast, meaning IRL coasters can get away with not having mid-section brake runs.

NVM the last post I think ive finally figured out block breaks..If I put one at the middle of the ride and time it right I can keep the flow going and have more trains. I would always put them at the end of the ride. But one strategically put can reduce a long station and still have a nice amount of trains and keep the spaghetti low and not cost so much. And take up less space. Thanks mate!

I currently have a difficult scenario idea in the works and I want to see what you guys think of it.

The objective is to have 10 coasters in your park at least 5,000~ feet long with an excitement rating of at least 7.00. I wanted to make all of the coasters you have at the start of the park either be expensive to make, hard to make, or generate very low income, or a combination of the 3. The coasters you will research, over time, will increasingly get easier and cheaper to make. I'm not sure how long that will take or if it's easily cheesable. Might be.

On top of that, generating income at the start will be a bit of a task, seeing how you'll be restricted to only gentle rides until you research more rides (The thrill rides in the research list come before the coasters).

You're able to buy land anywhere that isn't part of the park, but at $140 a pop. This will end up being necessary to be able to have enough space for the length of rollercoasters you need to make. Pic Related, it's the space you have.

Does it seem decent, or is it unplayable from the get-go?

BUT on a positive note if you make a smallish one you can have decent excitement and low nausea. It can fill up a small chunk of space and make it so your peeps will get the nerve to ride your more extreme coasters. I'm having a go at making a somewhat realistic hyper within the games limitations (avoid gridded hills, essentially. The idea for this was to build it into a mountain range to support more turns). Any idea why the stats on this are so poor for a hyper?

>> No.1998401

>>1998353
1. No brakes. Anywhere. Try making the ride longer and add block brake sections at points of the ride where the speed of the train is low, which is usually at the top of hills. This doesn't mean to add brakes at the top of every hill, but try to get the most distance you can out of the ride.
2. Turns at the bottom of hills only serve to increase the intensity rating and look spine-crushingly ugly.

>> No.1998421

>>1998401
I'm not stupid or inexperienced. I know how to tailor track height to get appropriate speeds and g-forces without the use of brakes. My intention was to approximately double the ride length with a block section about where the ride currently ends. Regarding the turn, I don't really see another way without falling into the goofy and unrealistic look I already described (I may see fit to elevate that first "severe" turnaround, though I have designed it to keep the lateral gs appropriate).

I'm looking for the advice of someone who has thoroughly studied how a g-force profile below critical thresholds affect intensity, and it may well be the case that a 1.86g turn is enough to dock a few tenths of a point, but that coaster is more like 1.5 points lower than normal for a hyper.

I'll experiment with it, I suppose.

How do these things crash? Do they fly off hte tracks or something? Because I know the cars can bump into each other and not fucking explode.

And what should I do? Just delete the ride and build a safer ride? Because I know if I just keep playing it's going to crash again.

sometimes some weird physics variations happen that cause the ride to go slightly faster or slower through a section during a random run
I think if you're going 20+ miles per hour over the top of a hill the thing will fly off and crash, so you originally had it going close to that speed but not quite, and it just exceeded it by the right amount to cause it to crash

A common problem with Virginia Reels with 2 lift hills is crashing because you get a Safety cut-out. This makes it so the first car reaching the hill is stopped, and the next one will crash into it.

Also: to anyone praising block brakes so much, my vertical here has been running for a year or so with guests in it, and now it crashes regularly and I have no fucking idea why. It makes all the hills smoothly and it has block brakes at points that are all slow enough for the train to get stopped every time. WTF?

Here's the link for the Sp00ktober contest workbench. The poll was pretty evenly split between default and custom stuff so the only custom scenery is landscaping/water objects and there are only a handful of custom rides.

Just download the file and drop it into your saved games folder. I don't think I need to include anything else but let me know if there are any Missing Object Data errors.

No need to complete the objective (you can if you want to, I suppose). Create the best spooky themed park you can and we'll all vote at the end of the contest. Trainers and such are allowed. Deadline is Saturday November 1st. You don't need to be super good, this is mainly just for fun. Feel free to post pics of your progress in the thread as you go along.
