What's the view on the SNES of this game?
How inferior is it to Rondo of Blood?
Cravin' some Castlevania, it's on the eshop.
Should I /vr/?.

It's great if you've not played Rondo of Blood.

It's really just watered down compared to Rondo. Still good but only half as good as the original.

As a kid I thought it was amazing, but can see why everyone trashes it next to Rondo. I'd say play it for that awesome intro.

>> No.1989037

Rondo is among the best classicvanias in the series, however dracula X is still worth a play, also that games dracula fight is fucking absurdly difficult, maybe the most difficult dracula in the series?

>> No.1989038

Nah, go for Rondo of Blood any way possible.

Bloodlines is good too.

It was actually my introduction to the series.

I think the whole "it's a bad version of Rondo of Blood" hivemind thing among the Castlevania fanbase is wrong and misinformative, but sadly it's been too long since people's been parroting this so people will always think of DX as a 'bad port of Rondo'.

However, it's a completely different game. I didn't realize this until I played Rondo of Blood that comes as unlockable on PSP remake.
I expected it to be a better version of Rondo of Blood with alternate paths and another character, but instead I got a totally different game with the same setting and characters, but in structure, the game is different.
I wouldn't consider it a port, myself.

It's a lot harder than Rondo, too. If you're looking for a classicvania challenge, Dracula X won't disappoint.

I'd say go for it, but make sure to play Rondo too if you haven't already, because they aren't the same game.

It's perfectly possible to enjoy both Dracula X and Rondo.

This, I don't get the people who don't understand this, only thing I can thing of is they haven't played either of the games and just talk out of their ass.

You could argue DX is a bad castlevania game, but arguing it as a bad port of rondo is stupid.

The only reason that last fight is so difficult, is because you want to move around the stage, but if you go to the left past the first three platforms, you cannot go back to the right and end up getting hit by both of draculas forms, every fucking time.

It isn't that really. Dracula X was my first Castlevania after the nes ones and I enjoyed it, but later when I finally got the opportunity to try out Rondo I, like many fans just got bummed out about how we westerners got the short end of the stick. Sure, it's not the same game, but that's kind of the issue, or at least was at the time. It's not that its a bad game, but when people ask for Castlevania recommendations i.e. the best of the best, I consider it low priority.

Yeah, I was like that before, too. Before I could actually play Rondo.

As I said, DX was my first one, I loved it, I think it was a great introduction to the series because the controls are classic 'vania, as are the levels: pure straightforward action from beginning to end, hard as balls, great graphics and music. What else could I ask for as a 10 year old?

But then with the internet, I came across CV Dungeon which became one of my favorite sites, and I remember reading about DX being a bastardized port of Rondo of Blood and how Rondo was superior, bla bla.
I thought it was true, I thought they actually cut the alternate paths from Rondo and cut Maria, and made the overall game worse. And I was kinda disappointed that my introduction to the series, while great for me, was just a "bad port of the great Rondo of Blood only-japan release". Feels badman.

But that's not true. I learned that when I actually, finally got to play the original Rondo on the PSP. I was surprised to find the first level started identical to Dracula X, but then barely anything else resembled the game I had played before. Different level structure, different bosses, different enemies, or placed differently/in different levels (for example the giant bull creature that chase you on level 2 of Rondo appears in the middle of the first level of Dracula X).
First boss on Rondo of Blood is the dragon, first boss on Dracula X is Cerberos (a boss that doesn't even appears in Rondo!).

Nope, sorry, not the same game at all. That's when I realized all this "DX is a bad port of Rondo" was bullshit and regained my love and appreciation for Dracula X.

Mind you, I still like Rondo more. I'd reccommend people playing Rondo first, then Dracula X. Of course, as Rondo was released first, and DX is more like a remix/reimagination of it, but it's still worth playing. I think it's especially worth playing for people who liked Rondo and want a more classic-type challenge.

Just so you're not the only one, I agree. Rondo/DX is more closely comparable to Megaman 8/Rockman and Forte; just because they use the same assets does not mean they're the same game.

It's not as comparable though. Both Rondo and DX are roughly telling the same story and share a soundtrack and some of the boss design
Though not a direct remake, Dracula X was definitely meant to be Rondo light.

Just like Akumajou Dracula for Famicom and the same for MSX, the two games are entirely different, even though they share plot and some assets.

DX:CnR (PCE) and DX (Famicom) are two entirely different games that are to be judged on their own, or against the franchise as a whole. Arguing whether DX is better or worse than Rondo is logical, but arguing whether DX is a good Rondo approximation is wrong.

The same could be said about CV 64 and LoD, maybe.

I haven't played LoD, but I know even though you can play as Richter and Charrie, their levels are different than on CV64.
Again, not sure if it's a good comparision because I haven't played LoD.

Rondo feels more like the "lite" version to me. It's more about messing around and having fun with the gimmicks (the different paths, playing as Maria, being able to save your progress, finding all the grils) than serious play. Outside of the bosses, the platforming and action aren't that exciting. X feels more well-rounded as an action game and it's way more satisfying to play.

>> No.1989361

>>1989342

Agreed with this. Rondo is great and has tight gameplay, solid design, great bosses, but Dracula X definitely is harder and more solid as a Castlevania game overall. Less "gimmicky", sort of.

I tried to play it and have never played Rondo of Blood. The mechanics and look/feel of the game are just inferior to other offerings from the same era. I can not honestly recommend anyone play Dracula X.
