Maybe just use similar commands to play it as SD with ffplay or use the dreaded VLC to "stream" the video by playing a 352p version and then upscaling in real time.

Or just try a proper video player in the first place, like MPC-HC with that LAV media splitter deal. Same thing FFmpeg works with, or AviSynth if you're serving frames and downloading Bill's Filter for Rainbow Removal just to make things work...then you'll still need FFmpegSource.

Try just playing the video with MPC-HC and setting it up to use your built in hardware acceleration and the like. I don't see what the problem is, unless audio and video are de-syncing. If that's the case someone might be using some scaled analog input into a digital display or something not related to the video capability of the machine at all.

Other than the DVD saying "Retro Game Master" when you turn it on, there's zero evidence that there was a dub. Some of the episodes on there weren't even dubbed, and the ones that are it's a simple case of choosing "Game Center CX" and not "Retro Game Master"

Now that all the raws are up at the place SA gets them from, including #184, it does make one wonder why they don't use the built in rescaling functions in Aegisub to resize their script to 1280x720 and then the other function to adjust the timing slightly. It might be Game Boy but it's still 60fps and high def.

>> No.1969749

What I want to know is why they're still fucking hardsubbing the show. It makes it impossible to fix subtitle errors like in the Street Fighter II episode.

>> No.1969753

>>1969749
It's so that we can't "steal" their scripts and release them. Same reason they don't just release the 50 KB subtitle files...they could just be corrected / retimed (one click) / muxed into the existing MKV in a few minutes. Maybe they think people will "steal" them and erase translator credit or something.

It's silly though, because even Street Fighter 2010 is up there at 720p@60fps now

>> No.1969758

>erase translator credit
Not gonna lie, I've seen pretty much every episode and I have no idea who subs these, except "SA-GCCX". So they really shouldn't worry about their credit being taken.

>> No.1969761

>>1969749
The only option is to either OCR the existing subs, which is made harder by the signs (dialogue could be focused on, times preserved, color of text detected and border, etc.) all with good accuracy.

The problem is that it's a gigantic pain in the ass. I can't get RGB24 conversion to work right when I try to AviSynth the 184 translation in SubRip. And then even if I could, I'd have to do all the signs by hand anyway. The script is already there, I'd rather download a small file and play it with the video as is.

Taking a CRF 19 encode and throwing hardsubs on at CRF 23 and no x264 optimizations isn't going to produce the same level of quality.

Wouldn't rent proper smoke machines, so he just hung flaming metal buckets from said cherry pickers.
Abe was so clearly pissed at him during the making-of, it was great.

I'd rather have 90% of the episode in true high definition / high framerate and the bonus / missing footage upscaled to 720p@60 or something.

SA's recent releases are the best they've ever been, but they're still making a copy of a copy rather than hardsubbing onto frames served from the original source .TS then encoding it all in one smooth move.

Their encoder could save a lot of time by taking the raws as they are, the .ass he's given, and the contents of fonts.zip (generated from within Aegisub) to remux it all into a new MKV.

The alternative, if they're really married to hardsubbing, would mean that everyone involved (RS, univbee, translator possibly) would require a 4 GB+ .TS file and a script made in advance by their encoder. Aegisub would render the original .TS at 720p and 60fps, with all frames properly indexed as they've figured out with ffms2 (except reading .d2v timecode information with DGDecode instead of .ffindex from FFmpegSource).

They're still coming out good now though, even with no flags passed to x264, from an already-encoded file. The source files are bigger than they like to release, I don't know how important size is. Generally the whole point with x264, unless it's from a BluRay movie, is to get constant quality and not worry so much about the final size as long as it's reasonable. 4 GB per hour is considered reasonable in some circles. I dunno, food for thought or something. The way they're doing it now is really best for softsubbing rather than hard, and will result in less work and better quality. The alternative is more work, potentially the same quality as the raws they encode onto themselves, and the inability to remove subs with a click as in soft subs.

I've been following the threads for a few months now. Your posts really stand out. Your huge number of aggressive posts recently are crushing the mood. I'm not even comfortable saying anything at all here now. This has to be said though.

You're grinding the thread to a halt with your endless posts full of dense encoder jargon. It's clear almost nobody here wants to talk about any of that or even knows much about it.

You keep misunderstanding our conversations and making demands and snapping at people over nothing and replying with confusing and wildly off topic posts. You keep replying to shitposting and talking about it which can only make it worse.

You taunt all of us and call us names like a little kid would and anybody complaining about it at all either makes you instantly furious or makes you play dumb or both. It feels like you enjoy being mad and arguing.

All you're doing is making a horrible first impression of yourself on a lot of newer posters and taking it out on them and the whole board for no reason at all. Nobody cares about your little internet feuds.

Please take the advice in these posts >>1980109 >>1982612 and bring your ideas directly to SA. I don't think anybody here is going to help you with them. Some of that is because of how you're acting.

If your intentions are good then just take some time to think about how you come across to everyone here. I'm betting my post will make you throw more jargon or shitposts at me. Please prove me wrong.
