I have, but they just don't have the "charm" Seiken Densetsu 3 has(Except for Secret of Evermore). I'll be more specific:

Well, there is Mischief Makers, but it's not really anything like Metroid.

A game where you collect shit and actually read/use them in such a way that they feel worth collecting in the progress. The slot machine in SSBM and Animal Crossing in general are great but I want more then just a side feature but that doesn't require me to play daily with time requirements and such.

I want to be able to complete the main meat of the game and still have like 75% of the collectibles to get but can leave and come back to it a month later without any downsides from doing so.

I heard Wario Land is good for what I want but I don't know which to pick and at the same time it seem like you are just collecting worthless pixels with no value beyond the game telling you to grab them as far as I can tell.

It was on one of those pc demo cds that had like 20 or 30 demos on it. I'll describe it in a second, but it was a set of about 10-15 cds and they each had demos on them of games like davedude, nightmare 3d, loderunner, hugo's horrific adventure, sapians and superher to name a few that I remember. If I could remember the name of the demo disks this might be easier...

now to the game, all I really remember is that it was called prince something, I think. Not prince of persia. It was a top down action rpg, your character looked like a top down conan the barbarian, shirtless muscled guy with a sword. You went around killing orcs, etc.

and that's all I remember. Hope someone knows what I'm talking about.

Honestly what I enjoy most in games is exploring new towns in RPGs, getting to talk to all the NPCs, do their little miniquests and immerse myself in the setting.

So, a game with copious amounts of vivid towns to explore and miniquests to accomplish.

Something not a 2D platformer, which is like A Link to the Past in the sense that you become more powerful solely through plot and exploration, not by gaining experience points.

I'd love a SimCity 4 with more policy and micromanagement, retro or not. Some people have said 4 is too heavy with the data watching and tinkering, but as an econ student I've always wanted more to play with. The more realistic the better, which SC4 doesn't always react as, much to my confusion at times. You often have to play it by the games rules, regardless of whether or not it makes real-world sense. The less of that, the better.

Since there's a lot of RPG questions being asked, how about some that think outside of the box? Interesting stories with few cliches, different genre combinations, just ones that are really "out there" so to speak.

Deception. All three games are Puzzle/RPGs in which you set up traps to defend your house against people.

There's also 100 World Story and Sugoro Quest, which are Board Game/RPGs. Outside of SG's sequel, you don't see very many others of this type outside of actual boardgames.

There's also a Racing/RPG game out there for the PS1, but the name eludes me and it's Japan only. I wish it'd get translated, sounds like fun.

Treasure of the Rudras has that spell system. As long as you don't use a walkthrough for it, it's handled pretty alright on the first playthrough.

Lufia 2 has those dungeons and the rage system, even though it still stands as pretty traditional it comes out as a pretty unique combination. They even make it into a full roguelike in the same game.

Legend of Legaia has a battle system that revolves around fighting-style combos and is actually pretty tactical.

Various PS1 games took Pokemon's idea and implemented it in interesting ways. Azure Dreams for example.

Terranigma is half sim. We didn't really see this style again until Dark Cloud which isn't /vr/.

Legend of Dragoon feels longer than it is, but in a good way. Each disc is a full story in it's own right and takes place in a different region with the same group, so it sort of feels like you play through four smaller games. It's kind of sad that there really isn't much to come back to previous regions for (one key item, extremely expensive equipment, and two very small sidequests) but honestly it works out well for the game in a way.

SaGa Frontier has multiple smaller stories taking place on different worlds, Live-A-Live does this but with time periods.

A city builder that only cares about building a neat looking city; i.e. no economic factor at all.

Outside of luck being a factor, I found this game quite good. It's really not as much a game as an engine for tons of things to run off of, there's scenarios of all difficulties and kinds running around.

It's really more like Fire Emblem though, with an ability in most scenarios to recruit new units for money.

Final Fantasy VI is legitimately good for this in areas.

The whole thing isn't perfect, though, and some parts will have you rolling your eyes. Also consider Phantasy Star IV.
