Can I get some hardware images?

Rare consoles, strange peripherals, special editions

As a bonus, post what console you think looks the coolest

there was a guy that took the time to take high res images of retro consoles.
i'm pretty sure he took that saturn pic.
i didn't save any others though, sorry.

you can probably find it in an archive

>>1949694
OP picture was taken by that guy. He has a gallery on wikimedia. He only took detailed hardware pics of one console so far that I know of (I think the Jaguar).

Retrojunkie has a gallery of quite a bunch of Sega stuff however.

>I think it was the blue one....I dunno, I'm too lazy to look it up right now.

Blue and Green were press/developer machines. I'm not sure if they were region free though.
White ones had built-in Video CD hardware, for the asia market.

I don't know about you guys, but I'd rather just have the real thing. That emulator box just isn't a piece of history. Maybe after 20 years it'd be a neat curiosity to have when there's no way the money can go back to the people who made it, but until then why not have the real thing while there's still not stupid expensive for the most part?

That being said, could we get this thread back on topic and not de-rail it again?

>> No.1954835

>>1954829

Well, the real thing tends to be more expensive than an emulation.
That said, emulation isn't nearly as good as original hardware.

Nothing beats the real thing.

Then we have emulation on a CRT monitor.

Then we have emulation on a modern laptop/led screen.

Then we have the dirt.

Then we have the worms on the dirt.

Then we have Mr. Popo's stoll.

Then we have what's inside of Mr Popo's stoll.

And then we have the Retron.

The problem is that emulation machines such as the retron are in some disgusting middleground - a lose-lose scenario for the user. You don't get the authenticity and perfect compatibility of the real thing. And yet, if you want to emulate, there are options that are infinitely cheaper, easier, and more convenient with more features as well. Retron falls in the middle and it has no reason to exist.

You can buy an used dual core laptop at Goodwill or yard sales for $20-$40 bucks.
It will play each and every game supported by the Retron and more, and it will never fuck up your saves.

For a controller, a $5 usb controller bought at walmart will do the trick.

Exactly, that's what I mean. I don't think anyone can seriously tell me they don't have an old laptop or PC laying around they could use for this. And you can get these things for practically free. How simple is it to find someone with a laptop with a busted screen that you can just leave hooked up to your TV? And if you ABSOLUTELY NEEDED to buy a special device instead of being economical about it, you could just get a raspberry pi or something like that.

And it'll have better compatability and play other systems as well. And you can use whatever controller you want. And you can still use usb adapters for your controllers. And you can just use roms instead of dealing with completely unnecessary carts. And you can hook it up to a CRT if you so choose. And it can do everything a computer does instead of *just* emulation

>> No.1954908

I can't see the retron supporting the gun with or without a CRT so they're not doing themselves any favours.

Why would you even make hardware just to emulate?
It makes no sense. I could understand if they were using dedicated hardware such as some sort of SoC, but if you're just using generic hardware there's no point.
