>piracy that helps promote them

That's most piracy though. I don't know if I'm unusual, but I generally only pirate things when there's no other easy way to get them.

>> No.1923095

>>1922432

I pirate many things that are available to see if I like them, and then if I like them I go buy it and try to buy merchandise. Torrents have gotten people and companies so much money from me they wouldn't have otherwise. That's why I support free trade of information as a writer too.

"Pirate" is a leading term meant to demonize the people doing it, when in fact all a pirate is, is a potential customer. Or a customer who quit supporting you because you stopped making anything worth buying.

>> No.1923558

From my personal experience, people who pirate...

1 - Are unable to get the product. (region issues, no longer in print)
2 - Have to deal with an inferior/censored version (Germans and Aussies)
3 - A lack of a playable demo (this is why I pirate PC games, so I don't buy something I can't even run)
4 - Weren't going to pay for it in the first place

I feel the first two are perfectly justified reasons to pirate. Third is iffy. Four is just dicking.

Either way, sales aren't really lost.

>> No.1923742

My reason is that i don't like the physical media very much, and i would feel like an idiot to buy the "right for using a purely digital product".
But i do spend my money on used game cartridges containing long lasting maskroms, but optical media and most floppy disks did failed me more than enough.
No way i gonna buy that, if media would be available on Read Only Memory SD cards (it's officially specified btw), then i would consider to buy that if it would be equal to the quality that the maskrom chips used in /vr/ carts has.

>And with all the three-alphabets stuff, reading japanese is three times harder

Simply rubbish, if you weren't joking. Kanji is a bitch, I won't deny that, but hiragana + katakana are a joke, you can knock those out in your first two weeks and never have to be concerned with them again.

If you work hard every day for an hour or mroe with an IRON HEART you can learn Japanese in a few years. The only hard parts are sticking with it and learning grammar- vocab and kanji are *just* time sinks. If you start TODAY, those time sinks will be MINIMIZED.

I studied at my university and started watching raws very quickly (less than six months). Of course I didn't understand all of it (especially longer narration bits), but it helps that Arino keeps reacting with same familiar phrases and you can pick lot of things from the context.

"Living national treasure" was by far the worst mini segment. The biggest thing I hate in Japanese comedy in general are the badly done, over-exaggerated make-ups and besides that, it didn't have anything else than a long intro and Arino desperately trying to make up a game based on a parody title of an older game.

>> No.1929001

Anyone who says 3 alphabets are a negative is basically a fucking moron.

It's like saying English is super hard because not only do you have to learn all the lower-case letters, you have to learn the upper-case ones too! And then when you're done with all that bullshit, you have to learn WORDS as well! Fuck English, it's way too fucking hard. How am I supposed to tell a capital "i" apart from a lowercase "l"?

>> No.1929021

>>1929001
English has its own problems, but Japanese is definitely the most complicated written language in use, and the most difficult written language for native English speakers to learn. Ask anywhere on the internet.

http://www.languagerealm.com/japanese/hardestlanguage_jp.php

You may not have an issue recognising or pronouncing any of the 92 common kana (not counting diacriticals or obsolete forms), but the complex rules and occasional arbitrariness of okurigana are guaranteed to trip you up.

There are also technically four alphabets, if you count Romaji, plus, of course, Arabic numerals, used seemingly at random in exchange for traditional Chinese numbers (which occasionally have irregular Japanese kun-yomi pronunciations).

All of this is a cakewalk compared to reading pre-WW2 material. Good luck with that.

>> No.1929050

I forgot to add the Secret Trick segment where Arino reads a letter sent by a fan. It's one of the better ones.

>> No.1929164

>>1929021
Okurigana are only an issue because of the non-intuitive way non-natives learn the language. In any country, you learn how to say words before you write them, so I'd compare okurigana issues to grammatical rule exceptions.

Saying there are 4 alphabets is so fucking stupid I don't even know where to start. Might as well say there's 5, can't forget upper case Roman letters, after all. Romanji isn't an issue for anyone who lives on Earth with a basic high school education.

Once you get down the whole SOV shit, Japanese is surprisingly simple. Kanji are the only real barrier to entry, and while it's a massive hurdle I still think it's an easier language than Chinese.

But fuck old material, old english has nothing on obtuse kanji with different historical meanings.

>if you count Romaji
Why are you posting if you don't know anything about Japanese?

I have never once encountered romaji while studying Japanese. It's not something the Japanese, like, ever use, and when they do, real Japanese is right above it, making it a stylistic and ultimately useless addition.

Okurigana is not complex, and EVERY language has "arbitrariness".

Arabic numerals should never trip you up; just think of it as a simplified kanji or something.

... However, pre-WW2 really would be fucking hard. I can't speak on it because I haven't gotten to that level.

Meanwhile, Arabic and Russian are way harder than Japanese.

Actually, a hidden secret is that EVERYONE has guts, EVERYONE has tenacity, and EVERYONE HAS AN IRON HEART! Whether you are weak at heart or not is one hundred percent your own mental decision. Cross your arms, stare ahead, and declare that you're gonna learn Japanse. Create an IRON SCHEDULE to follow every day, and you can succeed.

If you choose not to do this, it's not because you don't have guts; it's not because tenacity isn't in your genes; it's not because you can't make your heart iron. It's because you choose not to do it, because somewhere inside you're too lazy or too complacent to even bother starting.

YOU are at fault, in that case. It is not your lack of some attributes. It is because YOU made a decision not to try. It is because YOU have chosen the path of inaction. It is not a lack of intelligence, guts, tenacity, etc. It is just because YOU chose not to!

SO CROSS THOSE ARMS
SO DECLARE YOUR INTENTIONS
"I WILL LEARN JAPANESE!"
AND YOU WILL LEARN JAPANESE!

You stupid cocksucker, you can't get a majority of the episodes outside of Japan. So it's not piracy so Kan sees the Goons as a way to branch out interest around the world.

Regardless, piracy is a major threat to the industry, but to them they look at the domestic market and that's why you see the big push to shut down sites like Nyaa, because while they push fansubs, a majority of the seeders are Japs who just download what we get to steal the videos they can normally buy.

If Retro Game Master took off and we got a hundred episodes released on DVDs in America, you can bet your ass Kan would dump the goons since he wouldn't need them and see them as a threat to profits.

Fantastic new episode! A game that pushes but doesn't utterly break Arino, he finally makes CEO (of Game Center MSX, but it's a start, right?), and good interaction with dogs/the staff's knees

Mega is finicky because it's totally browser-dependent. It uses some weird database file caching system shit, it doesn't use your browser cache. And if it fucks up and the download isn't completed, it can leave gigabytes (not fucking joking) of shit in your browser profile's folder that regular browser clean-up won't delete, and it won't even use that data for resuming its download, you have to start over.

Lots of space for free accounts mostly, and if you're lucky to have a local Mega-affiliated server near you, it can be fast. (If you don't, or the local server is slow, you're going to have slow downloads.)

Also, when you upload a file to them, it gets encrypted first in your browser and they claim they can't do anything with it or identify what it is, so some people feel safer. Files get decrypted on the fly by the downloader's web browser, which is why it uses the browser's database file instead of cache. However that also makes it useless if you prefer using a download manager like any non-pleb and it also causes those issues I mentioned when certain download failures occur.

well he's played retro games for thousands of hours straight by now. his skill is better also.

check out gunstar heroes and you'll see he still genuinely enjoys beating the games.

I've watched both seasons and of course they're not the exact same but you're out of your mind if you think he's too serious now. 10 years is a long time but it's far from the longest show around. Hell, it's not even Arino's longest show.

If GCCX was the only thing he did you might have a point about him getting tired of it, but he does a shitload of other stuff inbetween GCCX episodes.

He's definitely losing at easy parts more often now. Like in DKC2 he jumps toward a wall then for no apparent reason presses back and falls away from it into a pit. I think it's just doing it to cause artificial tension. There's no logical reason he should've missed that jump. I think it was in the bee section but without watching it again I can't be sure.

Keep in mind what you see is roughly 40 minutes of footage from an 18 hours play session. Also recognize that Arino as NO idea what's gonna be put in the show or not- there are apparently lots of good parts cut out frequently.

There's 0 reason for him to fake deaths. Any tension will be created by the editing.

I really doubt he's some game master that's putting on a show for us. Arino's just that bad. Who takes 13 hours and only gets to world 4? There's literally no reason for him to stretch it out that much.

I would say after 18 seasons Arino has more skill (coordination, timing, strategy) but less concentration (more careless errors). Some of your criticisms reflect this, I think.
