Hey /vr/, is this a good Tetris score?

Depends on your definition of good. What are you looking for?

it's ok. how many lines did you get? it's still better than I could score yesterday. I just started playing NES tetris after work and I could only manage 90,000 after an hour or two. I think I was coddled with tetris DS and it's infinite spin and snappy controls.

Have you watched ecstasy of order? shits pretty tight.

I don't remember if my best is 400k or 600k, but I think above 150/300, your score is more than decent.

I clearly prefer puyo-puyo now, I nearly stopped playing tetris

Shit nigga, is that your best in almost two years? Surely you've done better. If you give me a couple days, I can best it.

Here is my recent best NES Tetris score. I haven't seen Ecstasy of Order but I'm definitely training this year to make it to 2015's Tetris Championship. I mean, why not? I love this game and I'm decent so I could try to qualify.

Whoops, that's old. This one was done last week. Slightly better.

I think Gameboy Tetris is equally fun. Slightly different mechanics, but essentially the same game, as is Tengen Tetris. Tetris games started being shitty when they included infinite spin and other nonsense.

>why not
if you're going just for a fun time then there's no reason not to.

if you'd like to feel good about yourself and validated your addiction then probably not. there are some serious killas out there my friend.

>infinite spin

You have infinite spin in old tetris games. Just spam the A or B button

>> No.1928969

>>1928961
I'm sure. I'm just picking up Tetris again after a few years of not really playing it like I used to. I have no idea what my true high scores are because I never kept track of them growing up. I just knew I was good because no one could ever beat me. So I'm hesitant to post these screencaps because they're most likely not my all-time best.

I'm sure I can hold my own and qualify for fun atleast. Winning or getting far would be a whole different level...

It would be fun if we had a consistent tetris scores/tetris thread.

>> No.1928984

>>1928960
nah it's not the same sometimes in newer tetris games it takes like a full second of leaving a brick in one place to lock in. you can spam left to right in tetris DS and move a piece that's already touched the ground. in NES I've had a t-spin fuck up because I flipped it the wrong direction and it locked into the wrong position instantly. you can't even flip the pieces when they're too close to the wall. I'm not complaining, I think the NES versions rules make the most sense.

>> No.1928994

>>1928969
as of ecstasy of order the qualifiers were tough, you're limited to 25 lines and 3 tries. niggas who beat the invisible credits of tetris grand master didn't even qualifiy.

have you ever got to level 29? if so you may have the chops

>> No.1929002

I got to the 20's back in the day, not in the last few weeks of restarting. I'm sure I'll get to it, I'm just a bit rusty.

>> No.1929005

So then what's better? NES Tetris or Gameboy Tetris?

>> No.1929179

>>1929005
NES is the standard.

gameboy has 2 major things going for it.
it's portable
and it's got vs mode

tengen tetris and SNES tetris (Tetris and Dr Mario) basically make that second point moot though.

>> No.1929182

The problem is that all tetris games have different systems of scores.

My favourite is GB version. It has better music, and the NES version's colour palette hurts my eyes.

Didn't the GB Tetris come first?

>> No.1929208

it's the version that was played at the original nintendo world championships. it's pretty hard to video tape a gameboy screen if you're going for a record.

>> No.1929226

>>1929208
Nintendo World Championship was in 1990. Tetris GB was released in 1989.

NES version sold 8 million copies
GB version sold 33 million copies

That makes the GB version the standard.

>> No.1929523

>>1929226
Also being the pack-in probably helped out those GB numbers.

>> No.1929587

>>1929226
>That makes the GB version the standard.

No, it means there are more of them.

NWC carts are the standard for that competition instead of Mario/Rad Racer/Tetris, not because of the number of them, but because of they work better for judging that skill level.

>> No.1929628

>>1929226
I'm talking about standard for competition and world record attempts, I thought I made myself pretty clear.

street fighter 2 world warrior is not the standard for the street fighter 2 series. It's a toss up between hyper fighting and super turbo, updates which came later.

I acknowledge that more people have played the game boy version. I guess if you mean "which is the standard tetris game in everyones home" then that makes sense.

>> No.1929658

>I'm talking about standard for competition and world record attempts, I thought I made myself pretty clear.

No you did not make yourself clear. >>1929005 asked which version was better and you (>>1929179) just said "NES is the standard". Nowhere was competition mentioned.

>> No.1929702
