>In a fashion similar to other dot com busts the company spent lavishly on office decor and facilities for employees – the Dallas office had sat on the 54th and top floor of the JPMorgan Chase Tower.[1] The corporate headquarters of Ion Storm were located in Suite 5400,[2] 22,000-square-foot (2,000 m2) of space in a penthouse suite on the 54th floor, the top floor, of the Chase Tower in Downtown Dallas. Ion Storm spent $2 million on the facility. Lisa Chadderdon of Fast Company said that the penthouse location was "unusual."[3] For the first ten years after the construction of the JPMorgan Chase Tower, the penthouse location had been unleased.[3]

>Russ Berger Design Group, a firm most known for its work in designing recording studios, was responsible for interior design of the headquarters. This included a ten-foot-wide company logo set into the terrazzo floor of the lobby and matching green elevator doors.[1] The headquarters included a "crash room," a dormitory facility with two beds, three couches, a VCR, a wide screen television, and two telephone booths. It also housed a gaming room with a Ping-Pong table and four arcade machines, a changing area, and a shower room. The headquarters included these facilities because many employees in the video game industry work long hours at a time.[3]

>This excess collided with game production – a notable problem with the office was that the sun shone through the glass rooftop directly into the monitors of the employees, forcing them to cover their cubicles with black fabric.

>a notable problem with the office was that the sun shone through the glass rooftop directly into the monitors of the employees, forcing them to cover their cubicles with black fabric
All of the other choices I can understand and respect, but that one, that's a fucking killer right there. Blunder of the millennium.

Their facilities were poorfag-tier compared to what big-time tech companies do these days, and maybe even some game developers.

yeah compared to a lot of places in silicon valley, this isn't really that outlandish

I swear Warren Spector is one of the big George Lucases of gaming. He's responsible for the glorious Thief and Deus Ex, but then he's also responsible for Invisible War and Deadly Shadows. At least he has the original System Shock under his belt to tip the scales.

Hair like his, or physically have it in my hand? I've come close either way.

John Romero is a college professor now.

I want to believe at least one of his students has asked if he's going to make them his bitch with the next test.

I doubt any of John Romero's students even think of John Romero the way we think of John Romero

He's bound to have had at least 1 student that's into retro games, though I have to admit that I would probably never make the connection easily. "No, no, it can't be. Must be another John Romero. It can't be THE John Romero!"

hair like his

you sure you've come close?

I mean, how old is that dude now? In his 40's, maybe close to 50?

If you have hair like that at that age you're winning in life.

Deadly Shadows and Invisible War aren't bad games, stop saying this.
They're just not as good as the games that preceeded them.

>> No.1931661 [DELETED]

>>1931291

No, they're not /bad/, they're disappointments in the face of the originals.

Still disappointments, though, which is the big problem.

If I had a class with Jon Romero, I'd constantly pester him about good game design tips. When it comes to levels and such he's top-notch.

he's a typical doom baby
yes he does need to go back to /v/ but unfortunately he will continue to plague this board like the rest of his faggot buddies in the doom general

are doom generals the cancer of /vr/?

Absolutely.

Absolutely.

Actually it would be okay if Doom babies just stayed in their generals. I mean it still sucks that we have to constantly see that thread shitting up the front page but w/e. What's more annoying is when they enter other FPS threads and start calling them shit because they're not Doom and they're literally too pleb to get used to the game's mechanics (since Doom is slow as balls in every way apart from Doomguy's movement. Enemies react slow, move slow, projectiles are slow and they hardly do any damage. Mechanically Doom is ridiculously simple). I can't tell you how many times I've seen Doom babies complaining about games like Duke, Shadow Warrior, Blood and Quake because they're too shitty to play them, being used to Doom's slow ass mechanics and all.

The worst thing is that these kids think that they're the saviors of video games or some shit, when they've only jumped on this /vr/ Doom bandwagon since the board's creation and they don't actually know shit about FPS. The rest of us having actually been playing Doom since 1994 and it's hardly a big deal, yet these stupid /vr/onies try to educate us on a game we were playing when they were still in diapers or perhaps not even born.

Fuck Doom babies. I would have never in my life thought Doom would ever have a community like this (it's probably just the /vr/ Doom community though, I'm sure the older faggots on other boards are good people). They are actually the equivalent of Call of Duty fans for 'retro gaming'.

See, a lot of those Silicon Valley locations are established and proven successes. Google has some absurd level of opulence because Google is swimming in cash and has decades of successful products both behind and ahead of them. IS was riding on pure Hype and had nothing to show for it.

I remember some iD people commenting on their excess at the time, while that yes they occasionally would rent out an air strip to tool around in their Ferraris, iD's office was still an unassuming place with no special furnishings. Shit, Carmack's money let him fund an Aerospace corp for years.

Pretty much.

The sad part is they think they have some kind of awesome, super-helpful community (they don't) and bristle at the notion of going to /vg/ when /vg/ are the nicest, most helpful motherfuckers on the whole site.

So instead of shitposting in the general, you guys are going to make your own thread and shitpost there instead? I gotta say, that's more efficient for the rest of us.
