I'll never forget my brother and I opening up the Dreamcast Christmas morning '99. We set it up by ourselves and popped in Sonic Adventure. We were blown away by the opening cutscene.

We replayed Sonic Adventure over and over again because we didn't have a memory card and lost our progress every time we turned off the system. We finally got good enough to beat everyone's storyline in a day and finally fight Perfect Chaos.

Before moving on to the Gamecube, we played the hell out of Blue Stinger, Power Stone 1 & 2, Sonic Adventure 2, Resident Evil: Code Veronica, Slave Zero, Crazy Taxi, and Evolution: The World of Sacred Device.

I had a few of these laying around when I was a kid. Broke my first one because I played it too long with countless hours of Shenmue and Pazner Dragoon. I came from a higher income family so it wasnt a big deal. I went backk and actually restored those broken consoles when I was a teen so I could sell them marked up. Nothing. Dreamcasts optical drive died a long time ago, so I gave my old games to my sister when I bought her a DC for her birthday one year.

Was worth it really... I should get the drive replaced and burn copies of my old games though...

I remember when I got the Dreamcast for my birthday in 2002. My grandma found it at TJ max for $50. It was great when I first put in Sonic Adventure. That intro caught my eye and hooked me into the game.

I wasn't blown away when I first got my ps2. Then again, I played Luigi's mansion first before playing Jack and Daxter or Frogger. While frogger played like crap, Jack 1 isn't a bad game, it never caught my attention like Sonic Adventure did.

All of 2001 went by fast.

I remember on 9/11 being bored because all the same stuff was on ever channel, so I booted up PSO and it was the next morning.

In order to do that you'd have to have the source for the netcode, and we all know how SEGA is with SC. And PA never went online, so the servers we're never inplimented, I've read it uses basically the same that AFO and Daytona USA 2001 used, those we're also ATT servers that they pinged to since ATT was SegaNets backbone.

I got this two together in a videogame street market. The DC was like 2 months on almost 24/7 on my flat.
We had different schedules with our flatmates, but there was always at least one of us playing. You would wake up hearingh "click-clickc-click" compulsively. It was the trigger.

The thing is, DC games never got super cheap like PS2 or OG Xbox.

Maybe RIGHT after it was discontinued unsold copies were discounted, but I've been paying close attention since then and most good DC games really seemed to hold their value secondhand.

A bit like GC stuff I guess.

Marvel vs. Capcom (the original) had a speed option that allowed for fights that lasted only a few seconds. The first night I got it and found this feature, my roommate and I (we had just moved into our first apartment after college) called all of our friends over and had a series of fast tournaments. The most amazing part was that the controls were so accurate despite being played so incredibly fast. Something like 15 friends ended up coming and we played for hours trading off characters and players. It was a ball. I've never seen such a feature on any other game before or since.

Grandia II might be the best JRPG of all time (on the Dramcast that is). Incredible story, characters, graphics and battle system. Basically the perfect JRPG.

Soul Calibur II was definitely the best fighter for ANY console EVER. The graphics were amazing and still are, the controls were smooth as silk and the extra options/challenges/features/modes....well lets just say there were LOTS of them.

Also, the internet and keyboard worked well with the console at the time.

Before the Dreamcast I wasn't a fan of Sega. The Dreamcast was possibly the best console ever made (as far as being one that was made for gamers of its day that is). It was really sad when we found out that it was being discontinued. It was a few years before I bought a used Playstation 2, a really good system with tons of good games, but the unique feeling of the Dreamcast and its games never returned. They were just FUN. Not kiddie fun (Wii), not Playstation fun, just a joy to play.

Yeah, Sonic sucked (as well as a few other early releases) and the controller looked and felt like crap when you first used it but it turned out to be really responsive with certain games. Still hate how they attached the cord to the bottom and had it fold underneath...that was strange.

After a short time though, some good games started coming out and my roommate (who worked at an EB Games location) convinced me to go in with him on buying one to try it out. The first game we got was Power Stone and we were hooked.

Dude, 2 is the worst Soul Calibur game in the series. It's great until you start getting good and then it's fuzzy guards and impact chains up the ass. I want a fighting game, not a blocking simulator.
