This is the best Alone in the dark for me, are you agree /vr/?

AiDT3→AiTD:The new nightmare→AiTD2→AiTD1→AiDK ( Made by Atari ).

Also has the best soundtrack:

Indeed.... AITD2 is pretty bad. It's not even survival horror anymore. It's hardly survival, and it's definitly not horror. It's kinda like Dino Crisis 2 is to Dino Crisis 1.

The New Nightmare could be good if it didn't have glitches and if they weren't some really shitty design choices in terms of progression / puzzles (like that wall you have to walk over... ).
Also the original PS1 version is terrible, due to their light system every screen has to be loaded twice, which means loading times between camera angles are twice as long as in a Resident Evil. Now, it's 'tolerable' in RE (you get used to it), but twice as that becomes really annoying. Plus, the PS2 version is just the PS1 version put on a PS2 disck and the loading times are almost as bad if not just as bad...

Both games has issues like the others, in fact I like all the games ( except the new one ) but AItD 2 has better history and music and you can be Santa Claus. The new nightmare is tolerable and the MC looks good.

I bought AitD during the gog.com sale, played it yesterday for the first time and it seemed alright.
Controls aren't as terrible as I expected and the visuals/atmosphere are pretty nice thanks to the cinematic camera angles. Sure the enemies and animations look more goofy than scary now and I heard there are some dead ends in the puzzle design but I really don't see it being a "torture to play".

Also a question: What are the gameplay differences between the two characters?

I grew up with the original AitD Trilogy on Macintosh (don't crucify me)

It was one of the first real non-arcade style game I ever played and I loved the absolute shit out of all of them.

My personal favorite back then was 3 because of the Western theme (I was obsessed with that genre as a kid) and that halfway through the game you get to play as a motherfucking panther!

However nowadays I've been slowly gravitating to the original due to the Lovecraft theme and ambient soundtrack

I'm playing with a friend through the whole Alone in the Dark series and it's a blast- the first game has us puzzled the whole time about what was going on every second due to the poor, primitive 3D and cluttered design (for some reason the dead pirate in the first game was unbeatable by any sword and I just managed to pass through the courtyard full of invincible, unstoppable spiders more than once to reach the ballroom, taking some quick save scumming). We reached the end thanks to a save we made at the beginning of the cave section of the game, because the first time we've been through that hell we missed the fact that you have to burn the damn tree (I though the painting meant that the tree shot fireballs, isn't it what it does after all).

Now we are at the second game and even though it's a completely different, HIGH-ACTION packed game, it's still fun.
Still, at the beginning we explored the gardens and managed to save all ammos and lose little to no life and got the rope and hook- then we found out that you can enter the mansion anytime via a bush with a rock in front where Carnby just levitates in front of. Walkthroughs seems to indicate that there was a statue in the garden and some other stuff, are we gonna eventually get stuck?

Also discuss your Alone in the Dark experience. It's truly terrifying due to being so confusing as a game.

The in the second game they slighlty fixed running but it still works about 50% of the time, and introduced the high kick which is ridicolous.

As for 2, well, the story definitely takes quite a few turns; as long as you continue to read EVERYTHING you come across, you shouldn't get stuck. That's pretty much the key to beating Alone in the Dark games, the answer can be found either in books or by looking around for something out of place.
