I'm thinking of collecting a Jaguar one day. With Atari I only had plans for a 2600 and 7800 but the Jaguar seems like it has a worse rep than it really is.

So, Jaguar thread.

You're kidding, right?

There are two kinds of collectors: those that want to play games and those that are just looking to collect something.

Only the latter group would care about bullshit like the jaguar

>> No.1903256

Just how bad was the Jaguar, really? Is there anything worthwhile on it? Even the Virtual Boy at least had Wario Land, and most of the other games were at least OK.

None of you guys probably have never even played a Jaguar and are just parroting

No, I remember when it came out though. When the commercials ran for it on TV, it looked absolutely gorgeous compared to the competition.
I talked to my father about getting one. Most of the heresay at the time was that the system didn't have a single good game. Once the reviews starting pouring in, it was confirmed. The Jag has sweet graphics, but nothing worth dropping the dosh over for one.

Rayman, Doom, Pitfall.. It's no SNES but it's not a bad collectors item. It's enough fun to be worth a buy, more than the 5200 or Virtual Boy.

Well, my father already had a PC, so ports didn't appeal. Sure, today, it might be a novelty to see what the exclusives are like.

Jaguars have a fail rate that puts early 360s to shame. You're seriously playing with fire when you put down money for one; don't expect it to work without having to open it up and fix it.

This was a common problem with electronics in general of the era. Commodors (as much as they were dying out), Ataris, Tandys, and a lot of other electronics had hilarious recall rates. It was mostly issues with bad power supplies. PSU meltdowns didn't really stop being a thing until the mid to late 90's.

Raiden was really fun on Jaguar. I have fond memories of Alien vs Predator as well.

I only got a Jaguar because I'm a huge Atari fanboy and because my dad and I love Tempest. It's not a bad system once you have some games for it, but TBH probably not worth it for most people. I would work on my 2600 and 7800 collection first, if I were you.

I only ever played Gex on a display version of one at a Circuit City years and years ago, but most of the good games on the Jaguar seemed to be multiplatform. Unless you just want to collect every retro system ever, I'd recommend avoiding it.

Here s my jaguar. It's pretty shitty. Although Tempest 2000 is pretty fucking rad. Still that controller is a piece of shit.

Th turbografx 16 is there too... And was a much better system.

Can't you just play the PC or PS port?

I'd love to find a Jag in the wild someday. I even have a game and 2 controllers for it. I know it's a shit console and I doubt I'll ever find one, though.

>> No.1903384

the idea of collecting stuff like this just goes against all logic. It doesn't have very many good games at all, and on top of that, it's very uncommon, which makes it that much more of a pain in the ass to find stuff for.

what port? it's an exclusive. You're thinking of alien trilogy

AvP is really kinda boring to me. The level design is poor. I found Wolfenstein and even Doom to be a little more enjoyable.

The Jag has a great port of NBA Jam TE, and that's not saying much. It's only worth to collect if you like bragging to your friends about you have a shitty system that no ones ever heard of.

I want wolfenstein too, that sucks to hear about the avp game cause avp gold and avp2 were awesome.

Does the Jaguar even have decent emulation? Last time I read up on it, the system had some funky three chip architecture.

>> No.1903416

>>1903408
Actually, from what I remember it didn't have much of a scene. It's too hard to emulate.

Many games were made not utilizing the hardware and developers would just use the 16-bit processor used for the sound. That's why I think Doom had no music.

Probably no one really cares to make a decent emulator though because it sucks.

Atari Kart is pretty decent.

Atari actually dropped some respectable hardware for the time in there. Still, without a stellar SDK, that looks painful to program.

Play AvP Jaguar full campaigns, then do the same for AvP arcade and Genesis, AvP Gold , AvP 2, AvP: Extinction, PS3 AvP and Android AvP become the fittest of the species. Bonus: play all the expansions, Alien games, and Predator games.

What about an ST or the 8 bit family?
