i wanted to play FF5 and was wondering which is the best version.
I saw theres one for android and thought that would have superior graphics but my phone is too shitty for that.
am i left with GBA version?

Play the Super Nintendo version with a fan translation patch.

PS1 version has Lag.
GBA probably has some dumb changes and worse sound which the GBA is notorious for.
SNES is probably best version.

>> No.1897837

GBA version is best, don't listen to anyone who says otherwise.

PS1 version is poorly emulated, has shitload of lag.

SNES version only has fan translations.

GBA version has some fun extra content (bestiary, extra classes, a bullshit extra dungeon), and it has a good translation. It has fucked up sound due to the GBA having awful hardware, but there is a patch that can restore it and also fix some of the magic effects to not drop framerate so much vs the snes original.

GBA version with the fix patches is the best version.

Android version is lolno.

Because he's crazy. The fantranslation is ridiculously stilted, awful enough to ruin the whole experience.

The only way to play the game is the GBA port. SNES original could have been a good match, but it's Nip-only, and the fantranslation, as I said, was understandably unprofessional.

Of course, all that pales in comparison to the awfulness of the PS1 port, which has an even worse script... and loading times for a game, giant chunks of which should adequately fit into PS1's RAM whole. Oh wait, no, it still isn't the worst since there's the iOS/Android version which looks like that:

Don't listen to the "any change is bad" fag. The Gba extras fit well with the rest of the game.

>> No.1897895

No one has mentioned the #1 reason to play the GBA version, and that is YOU CAN DASH WITHOUT OF NEEDING SOME SHITTY THIEF SKILL TO DO SO.

which gba emulator for android is prefered by /vr/ or is android emulating frowned upon here

>> No.1897926

>>1897892
The extras are entirely irrelevant. The one important difference is the script, and only the GBA port has a good one (in English).

Resolution is lower, but graphics are more colourful, and there are very pretty backgrounds. The music is of less quality, but not near as bad as some claim: it's fine.

Retroarch contains the best emulators. You may have a decent choice of stand-alones and may argue the upsides of various features, but on Android it's either RetroArch or nothing, as the rest of the emulators are barely usable at all. I remember using something called GBAdroid or something like that, but it was no good. RA, meanwhile, runs most important platforms rather good on any decent hardware (I'm currently running it on Galaxy SIII and peria Z tab), runs everything up to and including gen 4 perfectly.

>> No.1898069

Fucking GBA plebs. I love the GBA, it's my favorite portable ever, but the SNES version of this game is simply much better.

Resolution on GBA is always a problem. The goddamn thing is onlye 240x160. I'd only recommend the GBA version if you were going to play on real hardware.

Besides, it contains ugly ass character portraits by Amano which don't look anything like the sprites, and are ugly as sin.

Are you retarded? You can run on the other versions from the beginning, the Sprint/Dash ability just makes you run faster.

Bestiary can be a huge help in figuring out rare steals and enemy weak points.

And the SNES is 256x224 so you are really not losing THAT much.

Does it really have pop culture references? You just single handedly turned me off the GBA version if so.

It's supposed to be cluttered and overwhelming, especially to contrast with the clear sky that he has. Amano is very good with using space in a way to evoke the right emotions. Plus, his art was always better since it had more of a fantasy feel to it.

I've tried emulating the GBA version with the sound patch, but when I compared it to the SNES version the SNES one just has so much better sound. Have I been retarded and missed something, or is the GBA version only really worth it if I use a real GBA?

Fan translation of the SFC (google the rom referenced in the filename).

I played it through on an Android device running off of the same processor as the original Razr phone (so probably shittier than your phone, but granted being a Nook Color the screen was larger), using a paid copy of Super GNES, and there was no lag even with quite a lot going on during battle.

The screencap was taken on the device, but I didn't notice until dumping a bunch of screencaps onto my PC that Super GNES's native screencap function scales down the resolution. It played at twice this resolution and looks fine.

I suffered through the PS1 port several times. After a while you get used to the load times.
