Have Matt Groening ever spoke about their involvement in the Simpsons video games?

Most of the earlier Simpsons games had pretty weird concepts, likely to have been pitched by the writers themselves. They probably also contributed some designs (the juggernauts and space martians really look like Groening stuff)

Was Bart vs. the Space Mutants made before or after Kang and Kodos were introduced on the show? It seems weird they created a bunch of made up aliens for the game instead of using the ones from the show.

Well, the arcade had some scrapped Simpsons stuff that at the time had not been revealed like Marge's rabbit ears. So I am guessing they at least had some access to the writers, or Matt's notes.

I doubt Matt was that involved with the game in the first place. Guy only created the series because he didn't want his Life in Hell comics to end up whored out like The Simpsons.

Which is what I think Matt wanted all along. He just wanted to keep it as its own little thing instead of being some massive franchise, people bring up him freaking out over The Critic crossover as an example of him caring about The Simpsons but really I think it was just some ego trip he had going on.

I think I saw issues in the NES version of Space Mutants maybe because I have played the Genesis version previously, and that one was slightly more polished in the hitbox department.

That said I didn't think both versions were good games looking back. They were fun when I played back in the day but try re-playing these days doesn't seem so much fun.

There's some interviews with him around the time the EA game came out where he talked about the older stuff and mentioned they gave notes and pitches and the writers used it to do some more surreal stuff and people still talked about the Arcade game which they all thought was weird because they just handed off some assets to the guys who did the TMNT game and Fox assured them it would be a hit.

But Fox's licensing handled most of it. He was only really hands on with the EA game in 2008 where he would actually look at the builds and give feedback with the other showrunners

>> No.1900073

I remember watching some Simpsons commentary where they are briefly bored enough to read the "trivia" that David X. Cohen brought in with him. He mentions some stuff in the Hit & Run game, and nobody in the room knew what that was, or even that the Simpsons had video games in the first place. And Hit & Run is probably the best Simpsons game.

So I don't think most of them care too much.

>> No.1900076

>>1900073

The Futurama DVD's had commentary on the game and they remembered everything because they honestly thought it was the last time they would do Futurama.

And David X. Cohen had to bring his Xbox to the studio to hook it up and record the cutscenes as the Finland dev studio who made it was bought out by a gambling company and deleted the masters of the cutscenes.

Well I guess my post wasn't as clear. I'm more curious as to how they used to dress white people as a whole, and white females most importantly. As usually white females in these types of advertisements would wear clothing similar to males.

Also, how much color they used to put on the clothing.

Then comparing it to modern advertising, which is mostly to dress females in less & more revealing clothing, usually with blacks or greys.

Did I rustle you because you happen to be a white? I didn't mean to rustle you, it is just an observation of the past.

a) Not an uncommon style at the time, in advertising and reality

b) This ad is depicting a fucking family, featuring two young daughters and a mother. Would you really expect them to "dress less and be more revealing" in this context?

I don't know if you're trying to say that the aliens in the game are clearly separate from Kang & Kodos (in which case, that much is obvious) or that they are distinct from the aliens featured in the movies-within-the-show, but either way, who really cares? It's likely that the idea of using Space Mutants in the game came from the use of Space Mutants in the show, but ultimately whether it did or didn't doesn't really make much difference.

I remember hearing on an early season DVD commentary that Matt Groening looks down his nose at video games and considers them to be inherently stupid or something like that.

http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,311316,00.html

According to a 1992 issue of Entertainment Weekly he did have some creative control over all the games, he'd create artwork and character designs and he'd give some things a thumbs up or a thumbs down. Some of his input includes changing Queen Ant DeLuvian of Bart's Nightmare to Queen Grouchina and encouraging the game designers to avoid using the Springfield setting and characters of the show as well as encouraging them to avoid traditional action mechanics in favor of adventure elements. However he doesn't play games because he's about as good at video games as you'd expect a rich, busy, middle aged man who thinks video games are for losers would be.

Also, I should add, the reason the Konami arcade game is so much better than the other games is probably because Mr. Groening had very little to do with it given that the developers were Japanese. He was really only involved in the games to begin with out of distrust towards game designers and the arcade game was probably an example of what he was trying to avoid: the Simpson's running around mindlessly punching shit and making his cartoon look bad somehow.
