What does /vr/ think of Universal game Cases? I am not crazy for owning original boxing, but I like organization so I thought those would be nice.

>> No.1891829

>>1891824
Seems like a good way to organize your library. Especially for games that didn't really come with cases like SNES and N64 games. How expensive are they though?

>> No.1891836

>>1891829

You get 100 for 50 plus shipping plus printing all the covers so around a dollar a case.

>> No.1891837

>>1891836
>>1891829
They don't ship outside NA though.

>> No.1891865

>>1891836
That's $100 you could spend on, you know, video games instead. Get cheap DVDs or Jewel cases for CD's and put cheap labels on the ends of carts that don't have them. I am an organizationfag myself but I can't justify paying so much money just for that sake.

>> No.1891873

>>1891836
Yeah that's a bit pricey and I don't even have 100 carts lying around anyways. Maybe I should get a few when I get around to finally buying some flashcarts.

How do you even into this hobby?

>> No.1891936

Where are you guys getting them? I used to get them from Racketboy but they stopped selling them and nowhere else ships to AUS for a reasonable price.

>> No.1892095

>>1891936
After a quick google search, it seems a store called TheVideoStoreShopper sells them with international shipping.

>> No.1892127

I think I'd need a much larger house of I put all my carts in those. Especially handhelds. But they look nice and for someone who has a small collection they want to show off they seem like a great idea.

Maximum autism.

If you want the box that badly then buy the game complete.

What if you could buy them in smaller amounts?

>> No.1892165

If you don't intend on storing NES games and/or manuals they're alright.

I use them for games with no end labels or to protect valuable games.

>> No.1892172

Takes too much space. I prefer the cart sleeve protectors.

>> No.1892175

>>1892164
Because, at least for me, its an all or nothing type deal. Do you really want to have just a couple of your games in custom cases looking completely out of place next to your other real games?

>> No.1892180

>>1892175
None of my cart games have boxes, so nothing will look out of place. I just want to preserve them while looking good at the same time.

The alternative is stacking them somewhere, and custom cases are just so much better than that.

>> No.1892183

>>1892180
I actually keep my cart games separate from their boxes. I hate having to keep opening the boxes in order to play a game as opposed to just picking it out of the drawer

>> No.1892185

>>1892183
Handling boxes will deteriorate them fast too. It's ironic that the best way to preserve boxes is to keep them away where nobody can see it.

First time seeing one of those. Were those designed to hold casette tapes or something? How many can it hold?

>> No.1892205

Yeah they're for cassette tapes. Mine isn't exactly like the one in the pic but it holds 42.

You can find them or similar for basically nothing at charity/second hand shops. I think I paid $3 for mine.

UGCs look really good. I go to the cover projects forums every now and then and drool over shelf pics.

>> No.1892209

>>1892205
It looks interesting, but I think I'd still go with custom cases. Have a colorful shelf full of vidya just looks all the more nicer to me.

That cassette rack looks like something a 50 year old man would keep his vidya so it's out of sight from people at a glance.

>> No.1892213

I have a complete snes loose cart collection there's no way I could fit those bueatiful custom cases.

>> No.1892215

>>1891824
Im in process of doing it myself. I don't have a huge amount of carts (around 50) but I've been working out the pricing recently.

I messaged a guy on ebay and he said for around 50 carts he'd do 6 dollars a case + shipping which would include the art. Of course compared to 100 for 50 + shipping for just the raw, and printing them yourself, it really depends on how you want to go.

I'd probably price the homemade ones around 2-3 dollars each depending on where you're getting them done and such, but 6 dollars each is pretty pricey.

Theres also the issue that cover project doesn't have all the cases, which also kind of sucks.

>> No.1892217

>>1892209
i think that's the fundamental difference though. some people (like me) don't care how our games are stored as long as they're safe, because we play them

once my collection grows i'd consider doing the protector thing but then i'd want a better printer for better labels, and i'd need another bookshelf or two, and and and and

Convenient stores like Ikea don't exist in Brazil. I'd need to look around for some stores that sell shelves like that.

Also, I live in a university doorm, so I don't have much space.

Also, importation taxes are fucking insane in Brazil. My SO is from Belo Horizonte and could never afford gaming consoles growing up since the markup was insane.

>> No.1892251

Looks neat.

Are there smaller UGCs that exist for portable game carts?

>> No.1892252

>>1892248
Anything legitly bought in Brazil is heavily taxes because reasons. Everything is overpriced.

International ordering is another issue altogether. Theorically everything is taxed, but because the number of things going through the mail is enormous, they randomly open up boxes and charge taxes for things they find inside. If you're caught, you need to cough up the money, but the chance of that happening is low.

As far as retro vidya goes, retrogaming in brazil wasn't expensive, even at the time. Specially for Sega stuff.

I'm talking mid-90s to mid 00s when my husband was still living there.

Were any decent retro games ever localized? I used FFVII to improve my French. I'd love to grab a few text heavy classics in Portuguese.

>> No.1892261

>>1892256
Games were manufactured in Brazil dating back to the Atari 2600(I have some brazilian atari carts), but first I heard of games being localized were on the Xbox 360. The only localized game I ever played was Halo 3.

You can find romhacks with pt-br translations though. If you've got flashcarts, go for that.

I own one of these for Snake Rattle 'n' Roll, never understood why there's a small white outline around the NES logo.

I print my own cases with high quality 300g glossy paper and add a layer of thin cardboard. They look like new and they're cheap to make. There's a French website that has a lot of boxes ready to print, plus templates and tutorials.
