Considering your enjoyment of SoM, give Secret of Evermore, Illusion of Gaia, Terranigma, and Zelda: ALttP a look. You'd most certainly love Seiken Densetsu 3 (SoM's sequel) but you'll need the translated ROM

Feel free to hate on me but I love Terranigma aka Soul Blazer 2 and Secret of Evermore. Best game rpg both gameplay and storywise is probably Chrono Trigger.
