Have the feelings gone, /vr/?

I want to get back into PSOne, but it just doesn't excite me these days.

I had one in its heyday and there were so many games I wanted after playing the demos!

But I couldn't afford them all

Now I can download any ISO I want and play it in OpenEmu on my mac

I have a PS3 Controller which is paired, and the emulation is near flawless

But its just not the same

I'm 31 now, and when I was 15 I could fully immerse myself in the worlds. But now I just play them for a few minutes and I know they're fake. It's all just kind of meaningless..

I can play fairly modern games and be ok, like Skyrim, but these old games just don't do it.

I wonder if its because i've grown up, when I was 15 vidya was my whole world because I couldn't do much else. Now I can truly explore the real world. I can do anything provided I have the money.

Is it that the graphics and control schemes are so primitive compared to today?

Or is it because I don't have the physical copies I don't feel invested? Maybe if I had a physical console and some discs it would be better?

I have an awesome 16:9 Sony Trinitron CRT that would be fantastic to pair with the PSOne. Two 90s Sony greats working in harmony..

I just don't know what to do /vr/ I want the magic back

If you feel like video games are meaningless, maybe you've grown up.

But in all seriousness if you want the magic back, try getting yourself back in the mindframe of being 15. Or, now that you're older and understand the hardware of PS1, appreciate how games play and what they look like. If I were you I wouldn't emulate all the games I wanted. It cheapens the "experience" of playing it.

tl;dr have fun with it

Easy. Smoke weed.

I've felt the same as of 6 months ago. I started smoking weed around 3 weeks ago, and video games, anime, everything's entertainment value/fun factor has been amplified by a factor of 10.

It is actually incredible.
And no, I am not a 420 faggot. I am the furthest thing from one of those degenerate inbreds

When I did it, it did give me a feeling of almost childlike wonder that I hadn't felt in a long time. It was great for relaxing and playing video games.

Then the paranoia kicked in.

Now it's not fun at all.

I agree with this there is nothing better than stoned gaming.

>>1879060
Just reassure yourself that nothing is going on and you're just stoned as fuck. You get used to the feeling of being high and the paranoia does go away.

I can't do that even sober. I'm an anxious wreck at the best of times.

Yep this guy is right. Drinking helps but I hate drunk gaming personally. Not being able to do shit I can normally do sober pisses me off, getting stoned on the other hand makes me better at games and gives me patience to deal with bullshit.

For me PS1 emulation is unbearable if you played the real thing.

The PS1 has a shitload of limitations that stand out when playing on high res. It feels wrong.

Just get a cheap modded PS1 or even a PS2 (might as well if you don't have one) and burn some games.

Memory Cards and controllers are quite cheap if you get a PS2 you will need PS1 mc for PS1 games

>> No.1879187

Why is /vr/ clogged with emulation threads? It is disgusting.

I know a similar feel

The first few times I smoked it was the greatest thing I ever experienced. Everything seemed so stunningly beautiful. Then it started to make me nervous. Then it unlocked some repressed emotions and now the instant a THC molecule enters my body I am overcome by fear and guilt and sorrow I can't even comprehend compounded by paranoia about how everyone knows I'm high and that I'm a worthless failure.

>maybe you've grown up.

Children and teenagers have less neurons in their brain compared to adults. Hence they have lesser mental capacity. That's why cartoons and games feel "real" to them, and they could easily immerse in the media. The solution to OP's problem is to take up a new hobby.

I'm not sure what it is. Maybe it's just a lot easier to capture your attention when you're a kid, but goddamn I wish I was still like that.

Just don't do it every day, coz then the magic of weed wears off and you stop getting high no matter how much you smoke. Then you become a lazy, lethargic idiot that cant appreciate anything. Happened to me, and some of my friends are still like that.

Can confirm. Me and my bro did a fuckton of LSD. My entire experience was awesome. He has anxiety and he was having living nightmares later on, and was scared to ever do it again with me.

I smoke weed everyday and I'm fine dank canadian buds too, I work my ass off during the day too. It doesn't make you lazy, it makes you okay with being bored so you don't have the motivation to do things. I usually save doing it for after work so I can relax. It helps my appetite too when I don't feel like eating anything even when I know I am hungry

>> No.1879719

Either you haven't been toking every day for very long, or you're delusional, I'm sorry.

I also forgot to mention the withdrawals. People that refuse to accept the negative aspects of weed will tell you it's not addictive. I used to spout the same shit. It isn't physically addictive, but mentally? Another story. You should see the pothead tantrums I've witnessed when supply dries up. Even just a day and some of them lose their mind because they can't relax.

I know I'll probably get called an illinformed moralfag, but I've been there, and I still have to put up with the useless slugs I call my friends.

A way to help relieve the magic could just be playing it on the real hardware again, especially on the couch and feeling comfortable and not directly in front of the monitor.I like to emulate but I highly prefer it.

Remember that there's a swap trick, so in reality you only need a single real playstation disc. You can just burn everything else if money is an issue. Or mod the thing.

>>1879675
Also fucking this. I generally only smoke once a week on Saturdays when I get in a lot of my gaming. When it's a special treat like that and treat it in a schedule like that, you can avoid a lot of the problems. Though, again, don't smoke everyday or you'll just get fucked up. >>1879675 is right. Again, it's part of scheduling a special time where you know you have several hours free and alone to yourself as a weed and gaming time.

No, he has a point. I've been smoking every day for over 10 years and I have a very successful career. I'm not lazy whatsoever.

Everyday (pretty much) for the past 6 years. I maybe have like 10 days out of the year where I don't blaze, because I'm with my family or something. The magic has never worn off I definitely get way more stoned when I take a tolerance break but I'm not going to throw a fit when I can't get any. l live in a country where you can buy it online for better than street prices and have it mailed to you within a couple days. Some people can just handle it better. I had burnout friends like you describe man but you can't make sweeping generalizations like that.

I've been in the same situation where I want to play games, I just don't have the right mindset/motivation to actually do so, and I have a large collection of physical games I haven't played yet. The other anons are right, weed is pretty much the best solution.

Cannabis puts you in a state of mind that opens you up to new experiences in a more enjoyable way. It makes things fun. It's illegal in most states/countries, but it's not a bad drug. A lot of pot enthusiasts smoke everyday if their lifestyle permits, I'll get a bag every few months, vape it (smoking is bad for the lungs, vaporizoring weed is healthier and produces greater effects) and play as many games as I want. After I run out, I'll take a break for a few months before buying another bag.

Maybe you've always just been a graphics guy, op. Otoh, it can also be difficult to capture one's attention when there's near instantaneous access to full gaming libraries of yesteryear.
Try not to hop from game to game every 30 mins.

One reason a lot of us spent hours with a game back in our youth was that was all we had. Purchasing newer games or just more games in general wasn't as simple an option for many. Parents picked up a crappy title for you as a gift? Too bad, you're going to sit down and enjoy your crap, and master it on some occasions.
