Final Fight has quite a few. You can stand in front of the dog in the Bay Area to get points and lives (that might have only been in the SNES version though? Can't remember for sure.) There's some trick involving inputs right as you destroy drum cans and other such background objects that will force big point items like gems and gold bars to come out. Also there are apparently rare "lucky" and "unlucky" difficulty patterns. When you start a game there's a low chance that it can just just randomly be harder or easier than normal.

Yeah, it only works in Final Fight Guy to be precise. And what he actually does is refill your health.

I always wondered why the arcade version of Final Fight had two difficulty options to change. Does it have something to do with the "lucky" and "unlucky" patterns that the programmers put into the game?

Akihiro Yamada's art is not that bad. I like his Annette.

Funnily enough, the US manual used the same art for the PC Engine and not the new art they used in Japan and Europe. I always suspected the US version was made first for this reason.

The art for the enemies is not 100% identical though. I posted the PCE enemy list in these posts (>>1827581 and >>1827585) and the only common enemies are the Bone Pillar, the Crow, the Skeleton, the Armor Knight and Salamander (which is a renamed Serpent).

The monsters in Algos no Senshi have completely made-up names, so I wouldn't know how to translate most of them. Some of them are pretty obvious (like the headless "No-eyes", Leon the giant chameleon, and the Wolf Clansmen), but I don't get why King Liger's minotaur-like lieutenant is called "Sniper." Would be nice to figure the etymology of these enemy names.

Some of the enemies do appear in the NES Rygar, but that's not a straight port.

The enemies of Shadow Dancer for the Master System. I kinda cheated on this one since the manual doesn't have the enemies listed, but rather they're showcased in the game's attract sequence, so I took screenshots of them and made a collage.

This is the only console port of the game that's (somewhat) accurate to the arcade version. I left out the palette swapped variants and not all the arcade version's enemies are included.

It was pretty interesting to hear him confirm the "lawsuit dodge" theory for Poison's gender recently. People had been saying that for a long time, but then there were also things like the concept art that had "newhalf" written on it that still had people debating whether she was always intended to be a guy from the get go or not. Turns out she wasn't, and the whole idea didn't even come until after the game was already released in arcades.

The whole reasoning for Poison and Roxy being shemales to avoid a lawsuit from feminists in the US never really made sense to me, considering Final Fight was an arcade game originally, so it's not like they had the luxury of putting enemy profiles on the game's instructions like on a console game. Plus, they ended up replacing them with Billy and Sid on the SNES versions anyway.

I posted the Japanese Contra manuals in the previous thread, so I'll post the US version this time. Since the original Contra doesn't have an enemy list, I'll start with Super C instead.

Note that the image of Red Falcon is an alien mook from Stage 8.

And here's Contra III: The Alien Wars. It's interesting how the enemy names can be categorized in three ways.

Close or accurate translations
>Man-faced Mutts
>Sniper
>Tri-Transforming Wall Walker

Given to the wrong creature
>Vicious Slave Hawk (it should be Slave Beast Taka)
>Beast Kimkoh

Completely made up
>Chrome Dome (isn't this just the Wall Walker's first form?)
>Corporals of Punishment
>Para-Slug
>Psycho Cycler
>Twylobite
>Mutant Megasquito (seems a name more suitable for the giant flies than the humanoid birdmen)
>Metallican
>Robo-Corpse
There are more enemies listed in the Nintendo Power review of the game.

I would post some Probotector scans too, but the only I could find were for Super Probotector.

I still hate it when people call Uranian Devil Gyava "Black Viper" or Emperor demon heart Gomeramosking "Red Falcon".
I'll never forgive Contra 4 for that.

>> No.1869629

>>1869553
Contra 4's producer, Tomm Hulett, was unaware about the regional differences between the previous games at the time outside the retcon in Shattered Soldier (probably explains why he thought the AC Contra was called "Gryzor" in Japan).

Also, the guy was a huge nostalgiafag for the localized names and backstories in old Konami games. Hence why the two new heroes in Contra 4 were named after Mad Dog and Scorpion, Bill and Lance's old nicknames.

Bumping with D.J. Boy for the Mega Drive. It's funny how D.J. Boy's real name happens to be Donald J. Boy.

If anyone has a request for a particular game or translate a previous scan, let me know, since this thread is approaching the image limit.

Ending this thread with the Mega Drive port of Double Dragon II: The Revenge, which has a slightly different roster from the NES version in the last thread, since this is actually a (rather shitty) port of the arcade game
