Welcome to the Retro Game Gauntlet, gentlemen.

Start at NES, and work through in the following order:

NES
SNES
GB/GBC OR Sega Game Gear
Megadrive/Genesis
Turbografx16
DOS
NeoGeo
Sega Saturn OR Sega Master System
Commodore 64 OR Commodore Amiga
Playstation 1 OR Nintendo 64

You have three days to complete the game without assistance (each game gets three days, though RPGs are allowed a week due to length). Select your system here:

http://s3kr.it/gauntlet.html

You can also do it manually if you don't trust the random number generator:

http://s3kr.it/systems/

AND BRING ME SCREENSHOTS PARKER

-Do not post screenshots every other screen, make them few and meaningful
-Do not start a new thread before current one bump limit is exceeded

Rules:

1) Savestates are allowed ONLY for the purpose of taking screenshots and ONLY if your emulator/game in question does not have a pause function.

2) Rerolls are allowed under the following conditions:

The game you get requires some sort of hardware functionality that cannot be accurately emulated to complete (eg, Boktai)
The game would otherwise require cheats, hacks, or alteration of the software to complete due to a bug (eg, Cheetahmen II)

3) Playstation 1 games can be given up to 2 weeks to complete if the game is more than 2 discs.

4) If you lose / give up to a game you have to go back one square instead.

5) For Rule 4, if the game you fail is on the same path as another console, you have the choice to roll for that console instead of dropping down a level.

For games that have a high score or no end, the rule is:

If no high score has been established, set a goal and beat it
if you're playing something another anon already has a high score on, beat their high score
If you are playing extended rpgs/pokemon/whatever you get a week [Depending on the game needs to be asked in thread]

I participated in the gauntlet a bit less than a year ago, had to stop at Megadrive. (rolled Phantasy Star, played for a few minutes and couldn't find the time to keep going) The games I beat up to that point were Sword Master (NES), Street Fighter II (SNES) and Who Framed Roger Rabbit (GB).

I have some time off now and I want to try again. Do I roll GB(C), reroll MD, continue the PS run or start over?

I would do this gauntlet thing but I don't know what to take screenshots for sometimes, or a decent interval. I've seen this thread filling with screenshots of one guy who's trying to keep it alive and all. There should be something different. It's looking like a bad version of screenshot LPs.

I had a badly scratched screen with no backlight overlay for the GB, so if you remember that then it's definitely me.

NES it is. Genius Bakabon to be more exact. The name is kind of scary, sounds like some unpolished early Famicom game that even Arino wouldn't have the patience for.

Just as I did with Sword Master, I will record footage of my progress. (never uploaded it but I kept the winning run for a while) Since we have the webm format available now, I will upload those instead of individual screenshots.

And guess what, it is a Famicom game. But late, not early. Still, the size of the cart is ridiculously small for something released in 1991.

So, after a 3 hour struggle, I cleared the first stage.

The stage was divided into 4 zones, 3 maps each. Time limits are pretty harsh, on top of the character being a slow fat fuck.
If you die, it's game over. You have infinite continues, but you lose all of your health upgrades, which made stage 1-2 impossible to beat without doing a perfect run from scratch and getting all of the upgrades in one go. (thankfully, there were no more parts like that since then)

Either way, this is gonna take a while.

This game is neat. It's sort of like a Wizard Chess thing. Enemies are chess-styled and when you enter a battle you have to actually fight it with your guy, so a lowly goblin can at least stand some sort of a chance against a djinn or something.

Also, it's really hard and I'm losing, as you can see.

Also I want to do "Super Mario Bros 2: The Lost Levels" for my first part of this challenge. I will not be using any warp zones and in the Disk System Version you have to beat the game eight times in order to access worlds A through D. If I have to do that, Give me 14 days, tops.

Yeah I feel a bit stupid now for bitching about Trojan, at least that one isnt so bad so long as you know what youre doing, Zool just slips around everywhere and you seem to get hit constantly. One thing in particular that bugged me though was that you were supposed to punch a wall to get through 2-2 I think, only I had no idea you could even do that and there was no indication as to how youd do it whatsoever. That was just a bad design choice.

I also noticed the default setting is Easy: 7 lives and 5 continues, so I set it to normal. I should probably set it back or I'll have no chance of beating this game before my time for it is up.

"The Adventures of Captain Comic started out as an experiment to test the viability of two theories, the first as to whether a real arcade type game can be done on a standard IBM PC with an EGA card, and secondly, given the first can be done, if it is possible to make any money doing it. Well, I've come to a conclusion on the second point, but I'll let you judge the first point for yourself."

Guy playing Marvel Super Heroes here. I'm on my third day now, not sure I'll beat it but we'll see. I've made progress though and got as far as to beating Magus and all the stages in the second "world", EXCEPT one. I can't remember exactly which stage it was but it had Blackheart as the boss

I like the game and I understand everything better now, but one thing I found weird is the first stages seem to have stronger enemies than the second stages after you beat Magus. In the first stages those little jumping green guys and the flying laser shooting guys take at least a couple of hits, but in the second stages they go down in one shot for the most part. Maybe it's the crystals, I'm not sure.

I've also gotten more familiar with the fighters and their moves and I can at least make basic use of them all, except Captain America. I don't know what it is but I can't seem to use him well at all. He's the only fighter I haven't beaten a boss with.

So here we go, hopefully I beat this game or I'll just have to go back one square.

To play videogames, why the hell else would I be in this thread? Winning the gauntlet carries no value, since most of the games you can roll are either edutainment crap or sports games. People have long stopped handing out medals for games, very few people even play anymore. Today besides me we've had two people roll, one responded once since starting, and one person playing from the other day.

What exactly would be the point of following the rules if no one is going to play?

Marvel Superheroes guy here. My time has run out and it looks like I wasn't able to beat it. I have been busy with some things and havent been able to play it as much as I wanted, which is too bad because I like the game.

Since I lost I'll have to go back to square one, but I think I'll put this game of Gauntlet on hold for now until I have more free time. I had a blast though and I hope these threads will still be up when I come back, which likely will be pretty soon. Until then, see you guys and good luck with your Gauntlets.

Pic related is me at some point beating Magus with my favorite character Iron Man.

>Playing tabletop a while back, Fallout campaign.
>Decide to squat in a vault for a while.
>Doors lock behind us, suddenly three killbots are hunting us down.
>Manage to bring down one of them with a rocket, but we're out of ammo for it.
>Catch the other two in an explosion in the generator room, which cuts main power to the vault but gets rid of the bots (It also causes the main lights to shut off and instead the place is lit by sparse emergency lights).
>Check the bots for equipment, they're numbered 1, 2, and 4.
>Spend the next few days trying to escape living in terror that there might be another bot on the loose in a dimly lit vault, hunting us down.

In case you didn't figure it out, the basic mechanics are that you can block normal or block low, and punch normal or punch low. Blocking/punching low is just holding down and pressing A or B. Just punching up and down fast is what always worked for me.

Enjoy the shootout if you end up tied for too long

Not the guy running the server or anything, but it's funny you should mention that since I've been working on creating tiered lists of games for systems for a special gauntlet I've been planning. The lists are of good games only, no shovelware/edutainment/sports games, so the gauntlet won't be boring crap. I'm planning on having a prize for the first person to beat the gauntlet on hard, but I'm kinda limited on retro game prizes.

Here's a quick look at the Easy/Medium/Hard list for NES.
EASY:
Duck Tales
Kirby's Adventure
Legend of Zelda
Mega Man 6
Robin Hood Prince of Thieves
Snow Bros
Super Mario Bros 2
Super Mario Bros 3
MEDIUM:
Castlevania
Contra
Duck Tales II
Gargoyle's Quest II
Kabuki Quantum Fighter
Mega Man
Metroid
Simpsons Bart vs the World
Super Mario Bros
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
HARD:
A Boy and His Blob
Batman
Battletoads[JP, I'm not an asshole]
Castlevania III Dracula's Curse
Darkwing Duck
Guantlet
The Lone Ranger
Metal Storm
Ninja Gaiden
Prince of Persia
Shatterhand
Star Tropics

Anyone have any thoughts, suggestions?
