The console wars have been raging since the primordial days of the Internet, and show no signs of letting up. I've got a few images of battles fought on the fields of Usenet and other forums spanning gaming history.

Got any more, /vr/? Any war stories or fond memories of arguing about video games with anonymous strangers throughout your Internet career?

And some OC, a 1999 editorial by my 13 year old self bemoaning the news that Gold and Silver were adding a new batch of Pokemon to the franchise.

Yeah I don't know what my problem was, really. I guess I came to the conclusion that they would all be super gay based on rumors and speculation I culled from various forums I lurked on at the time. Here's what the front page of the site looked like, though the intended effect is somewhat lost by the lack of my intense Flash animation.

There's plenty more to be found, these are just images I saved from /v/ console war threads. Usenet archives are easily available, there's gold in them thar hills.

Oh wow. You can't believe how many times I've heard on /v/ how this generation of consoles will be the last because of PCs. System wars never change.

Just found this. He's not ENTIRELY wrong, though; N64 could've really used some 3rd party support.

I had initially interpreted that as Pikmin and thought it was a little weird that a little kid would be referencing something that wouldn't exist for a few years.

He's completely right, Nintendo used to and still does charge a lot of bullshit licensing fees as well as the fact that you had to buy cartridges from them and only in batches of 500,000 or something meant that if your game didn't sell then you were fucked

Will we ever break this harrowing, sisyphean cycle? How long will we continue to repeat the same arguments year after year with only slight changes to the script? Is there an end goal? Will those cretins every truly understand that X is superior to Y?

SNES games were far more plot-heavy than NES games, you fucking retard. I hope you're browsing this thread right now. It's been over 18 years, but this is an argument worth continuing.

I remember an old old, 1980s usenet cap with Atari fanatics saying that the NES was going to rot kids' brains and that other consoles were superior because you had to use your imagination to interpret graphics.
