couple decorate questions

1. For a special power-up, is it possible to get DOUBLE ATTACK SPEED working for doom weapons?

2. I've created a monster that works like a mobile/living icon of sin, however monsters spawned inside bosses (cyberdemon, spider mastermind, itself etc) get stuck. I can't find a way to telefrag bosses this method

Essentially the monster spawns using the RandomSpawner system, and upon the skull-chest missile landing, it creates a EXPLOSION killing everything around it, allowing the spawned monster to act as normal.

However explosions don't hurt bosses, and I need a way of killing them as well upon spawning. I also have to find a way to make sure the boss-monster spawning these can't be killed either, i could share the decorate code if it help

I suggest you start with Doom2, learn the very basics like making doors, elevators and stuff like that. It helps a lot, especially if you want to make vanilla maps, compatible with ChocolateDoom.

Then you should move on. Theres ZDoom (Doom in Hexen) and UDMF.
UDMF has more functions, but the size of a map can be extremely large (E.g.: meidum sized map can take up to 6MB). Its up to you.

Hai Anon. I've switched to ZDoom configs almost immediately because the vanilla ones were waaay too limited for me. My favourite is ZDoom's "Doom in Hexen" mode, but many people I've asked seem to praise UDMF too. I personally don't see any reason to use the vanilla configs nowadays, unless you want to make something that's 100% guaranteed to work for everyone.

UDMF has a couple of pretty neat stuff in it, but I personally recommend Doom in Hexen, at least for starters.

Seriously though it has good atmosphere, the author is honest in what he was trying to do with the monsters and gameplay, it's got a neat plot (I consider story and plot seperate though, a game can have a trite story but a decent plot which this and Winter's Fury has) and it does a good job of establishing what to expect in the full version (with foreshadowing and stuff) calling it generic is a bit much because the maps actually have effort put into them unlike most 'spooky' wads I've played. It's fairly unique.

If you just do not give a shit about story/plot or atmosphere and setting than of course you're going to hate it.

Story is basically the background and the general theme of the game/film. For a good example, Blade Runner's story is about the nature of humanity and how man's creations actually become more emotionally sound than their creators. Doom's story is pretty much 'demons invade' and that's it. it doesn't explore any themes or anything like that. This is Doom3's mistake to me, it spent alot of time trying to elaborate the background but it was fucking irrelevant because it just ended up taking more time to retell the original game's story in a long-winded fashion.

Plot is basically what happens to get you from one end of the game, to the other. Look at Sonic Doom's plot, how it starts with you chasing down the main badguy but you go through a whole load of different shit and events to finally get to him. the story is non-existent (you have to kill the guy and end up killing the guy) but the plot was amazing because it took you everywhere and gave levels a context/meaning. So winter fury's story wasn't terribly deep or interesting, but the plot was and made it compelling to drive forward. Think of shit like Lost which ended up being a fuckfest but the plot kept people coming back, not so much the ground over-arching story (because there was none, they made it up as they went along)

I'm sure someone who's actually studied this shit will have better examples, but that's how I differentiate the two.

Every Build game is programmed entirely differently which is why it's not easy to make them work in EDuke32. And with no sourcecode, it's a big no. The only reason NAM works is because NAM is essentialy a Duke mod.

Stimpacks have a small (1%) chance of having a mini-Revenant pop out.
Medkits have the same chance, but of two to three.
Backpacks always have four pop out.
Armor Bonuses are just chattering Revenant skulls.
Rifle Zombie is a standard, shorter Revenant with lesser health and can only shoot single, non-homing weapon rockets.
Shotgun Zombie is above, but use both shoulders at a time, a bit faster, and with a random slight spread.
Imps are Revenants similar to the rifle one, but larger, and shoot/move more aggressively.
Pinkies/Spectres become tiny, fast Revenants only capable of melee. Maybe a higher pitched AAA for obnoxiousness.
Chaingun Zombies are Revenants with launchers all over their body, firing non-homing projectiles constantly with line of sight.
Cacodemons become slightly weaker, but otherwise standard Revenants with jetpacks.
Lost Souls are just Revenant Heads that make their activation sound occasionally, otherwise Lost-Soulish.
Pain Elementals are like the new Cacodemon, but constantly throw their own head at you (new Lost Souls.)
Mancubus is a Revenant with comically oversized shoulder launchers. Slow, but fires super non-homing shots. (IE as is almost.)
Hell Knight is a Revenant that throws flaming Revenant heads and is durable.
Baron of Hell is as above, stronger, and the heads home.
Actual Revenants now make their signature "AAAAAAAAA" sound constantly.
Arachnotron are four legged Revenants that shoot constant with LoS.
Arch-Viles are Revenants that can use sonic screeches at you and summon other Revenants via corpses. (Complete with bone rattling sound.)
Spider Masterminds, not entirely sure. Maybe a ton of Revenants stuck on a platform where the brain is? Or a bad sprite hack of their upper half?
Cyberdemon - Cyber Revenant. I don't know, I'm burned out at this point, just make him shit homing rockets and have a really deep AAAAAAAAA.

SBARINFO's DrawImage command has two parameters, "ammoicon1" and "ammoicon2". I don't think bothering with stylized versions for ammo types would pay off well unless you're planning to make your HUD exclusive to one WAD only. Letting SBARINFO take care of that would probably extend the support for different WADs (as it'd automatically grab whatever icon is specified), and who knows, it might actually look good too.

Well, stylized ammo icons went out the window, so I used generic ones. Also, repositioned keys (should be better aligned now), and added a little holder for your current inventory item. Dunno what I'll do for an inventory bar right now.
As for unused displays (no armor, no ammo usage, etc), I'll have the displays disappear when you don't need them. Because /holograms/

I'll probably start doing SBARINFO in a bit, if there's no other things to address.

I'm halfway through my Doom 2 + Brutal Doom playthrough (it's difficult but pretty damn fun) and I was wondering:

What do you feel is the best weapons mod out there? Specifically a balanced/non-game breaking one (i.e. Russian Overkill is fun but not what I'm looking for in this context) that is compatable with brutal doom.

It's a little bit of both.
The short of the matter is that Brutal Doom dramatically changes how the game is played. Sometimes it's for the easier, like any and all Cyberdemon encounters. Sometimes it's for the harder, like any and all massive horde encounters.

There's no real way to tell which is gonna be which when you load up a map. It's a gamble, and not always with pleasant results.
My personal suggestion is to play through mapsets for the first time vanilla, so you get an idea of what they do and what they'll focus on--and then from there, you'll know what gameplay mod is a good fit with it.

Anyway, regarding the map: I'm not too fond of any map that pretty much explicitly relies on me to kill ALL the monsters to advance, or to pick up a seemingly benign object. I got stuck in the main room for a while because I didn't pick up the one shotgun shell box that summoned an Imp horde because I didn't feel like I needed any shells.

I ended up getting stuck in this hole here, because after I got the skull key I ran towards the elevator, and hopped down into this hole where I was greeted with a HOM and got stuck

This. Not only is it okay, it's actually almost mandatory.

Spritework at this resolution is a little like creating models for tabletop games. Look at this one: that's a 30mm base, which means the entire character is about 4cm tall. On a large model (or an actual person) the cleavage and bikini armor would probably look pretty ridiculous. On a scale this small, however, every feature has to be exaggerated just to be visible because there's really no room for a realistic level of detail. You'll have to ignore realism to some extent if you want her to be recognizably feminine - a "realistic" depiction (e.g., >>1857949) shrunk down to 56 pixels would make her basically identical to Doomguy from the shoulders down, in which case you might as well just swap out the head on the default sprite and be done with it.
