Jack Bros came from a craigslist ad titled "Take my miscellaneous gaming stuff." Long story short I paid the grubbiest, highest man I've ever met $35 for a filthy garbage bag full of retro game stuff. And when I say full I mean full, I had initially planned to meet him on my bike and carry everything home in my backpack, but there was no way in hell that was happening. I ended up having to call a buddy of mine to pick me up. I knew Jack Bros was in there, but I thought it was cart only. Turns out the box and manual were all the way at the bottom of the bag, flattened but still able to be folded back into box shape and relatively unscathed. Among other things in the sack were PS1 and PS2 games, some genesis games, 3 Genesis consoles, one being non-TMSS and one having a Power Base Converter attached to it, a PS1 with the LCD screen, and about 35 controllers for different systems. I sold some controllers and one of the Genesises (one didn't work), kept the VB games, some of the working PS games, the PS1, the non-TMSS Genesis, and the power base converter, and made a decent amount off the entire ordeal.

The Virtual Boy console I traded a lunatic at the flea market who thinks NESs are worth $100 an NES and about 4 games that I picked up at a thrift store for $20. I had brought some extra stuff because I thought it would take more than that, and he ended up paying me $35 for the rest of the NES games from the thrift store (all junk except Metroid and Mario 3).

Said Wikipedia entry is, of course, uncited, and the one single site I can find that's "selling" a Greatest Hits copy has no photo and looks shoddy as all hell. Diablo never got reprinted as a Greatest Hit. Ever.

Also Digimon World has never been hard to find. Both the black label and Greatest Hits editions are really common and only became expensive in the last few years. I sold mine back in 2000 and bought it again for $5 from Gamestop back in 2006. You're confusing demand with rarity. Any game with nearly a hundred listings on eBay alone is not "rare" by any means.

Only 14 NTSC-U copies of Digimon World 3 on eBay right now, and only 7 copies of Digimon World 2. I am well aware that high price doesn't always equal rarity, more often than not it's simply high demand, but that applies more to extremely common titles everyone wants, SMW for instance. It's not solely high demand that makes the DW games expensive, it's some demand (because there are not nearly as many people after Digimon games as SMW) coupled with low supply. There are 21 copies of Earthbound available right now, which is comparably a lot.

I know. He said he would give it to me at that price if he had anyway of doing so. I doubt he was sincere, but that's just how it is. However, I have caught that particular store slipping before. I got a complete copy of Dragonforce for $5 and two copies of Kolibri for $5 each. I guess $5 is the goto price when you don't know what something is. I'm still a bit butthurt about Little Samson, though.

Anyone could go on Ebay and but a copy of Earthbound for $150+ OP, not impressive. The game isn't rare, it was super mass produced. Hell, I remember tons of them sitting in clearance bins at Best Buy for $10 that's how I got my two copies.

Sub $100, sure, that would knock my socks off.

>> No.1849149

So how long until the retro bubble finally collapses and all the faggots looking to flip games for a quick buck finally fuck off and prices return to reasonable amounts?

I especially don't understand why stuff like earthbound is so expensive. It's not even fucking rare - at least nowhere near rare enough to warrant its price.

Earthbound got bought up by resellers speculating on the obsessive fan market, and it's probably the first game to ever be hoarded en masse.
The fault mainly lies with Smash Bros for blowing the series' cult popularity out of proportion. Starmen.net exacerbated this by introducing the series to the hipster market.

I'm friends with the owner of a Used Game store, and he's told me in the past that one of his rivals bragged to him about having a stack of EB carts in the back room. Literally, a tower of Earthbound carts, which he probably sold for $150 a pop.

If there's one thing I can't stand it's dickhead resellers who gobble up all the stock in order to monopolize. Shady as fuck.

Luckily not all games are like that, but we're still at the point where commonplace games are going for big bucks. I die a little on the inside every time I see a mega man cart labeled as something like SUPER RARE!!! on ebay. No it fucking ain't.
