Hey /vr/ I'm setting up a list for MAME emulation I plan to do over the next few months.

What are some recomended Must-play arcade games? Can be from any year, just anything thats fun and well worth the effort.

Any and a;; Licensed, Prototype and Homebrew Neo Geo Game except for Fight Fever and Legend of Success Joe. Those two are bad games in my experience. But Then again the Neo Geo is a must Experience for anyone who loves arcade games.

Not OP but i've dug out my old arcade stick and want to play some good fighters. It took me forever to get SFA2 set up with an old version of MAME and I can't get anything else to work, does anyone happen to have a decent source with complete ROM/CHD dumps? I really wanna play stuff like Killer Instinct or Primal Rage but i've just about given up trying to find the correct files.

Never bothered with MAME it was too much of a chore finding the right version and the right roms for it. I had two different shmup folders, one with CAVE shooters and another with some old arcade ones from a kindly anon on /v/.
Decided to give it another go and just copied all the roms from both folders to MAME 0.154 and all the games I've tried are working.

tl;dr MAME 0.154 seems to work well on a number of different roms

Always keep an older version of MAME handy. The MAME devs don't code for 100% compatiility, they code for game preservation.

Better yet, use MAMEUIHIScore. I should have recommended this to you guys a long time ago, I'm sorry. It uses a stable version of MAME, with the added bonuses of a nice UI and high-score retention.

I feel for you. To be honest I cannot remember where I got a perfectly working versions with my version of MAME. Your best bet to start is Coolrom but otherwise you're gonna have to play trial and error with google search. That's what I did and I honestly don't remember which finally worked, plus MAME has probably been updated since then. Good luck friend.

Sorry the site is in french but i am sure you can manage to find the roms you want on it.
they also indicate what version of mame support it. and even add the different regions and set for each game.
