Does anyone here on /vr/ have/had a Debugging "Blue" Playstation 1? Pic related it the console. I want to purchase one mainly because it can play burned games, and it's region free. Thanks for the help guys!

>> No.1801346

Can it play backups? I thought it was just region free. Also, pretty expensive.

>> No.1801349

I thought the debugging PS was called yaroze

>> No.1801363

They're a bit pricey, but not too expensive.
I'd buy one if I cared about playing PSX games on a CRT like the old days.
Cheaper than a PS4 and a lot more fun.

Apparently so. Even on the Playstation Models wiki, the blue debugging consoles fall "Yes" under the CD-R Copies column. I even made a little key. I'm not sure how trust worthy Wikipedia is, though.

Yeah, that's what I mainly want one. Lowest I found was about $200. Not bad I'd say.

You're thinking of the Net Yaroze, a development kit for experienced game programmers who could create their own games at home.

Net Yaroze's just look awesome.
That matte black is nice. It's like it's been painted like an SR-71.

I feel stupid.

just get a regular one and mod it

They do! The black looks sexy. Ha ha. I can only imagine what the console feels like.

I had thoughts about doing this, and that's probably what I might do. But I'm not experienced with soldering at all, and I don't want to damage my original Playstation.

you don't need to physically mod it; try searching for the swap trick or just buy a swap magic disc. i never did it with the ps1, but i used swap magic with my ps2. worked great.

>> No.1801426

>>1801420
Doing the swap trick can damage the Playstation's laser, if I'm not mistaken. And it could do a couple of other harmful stuff to it. I don't think it's worth it, really.

A modchip will be around 1/100th the price.

You could buy a dozen Playstation consoles and a dozen mod chips and still not spend nearly as much as buying one debug console.

itd be great to have one to fuck around with developing a ps1 game. I got late to the programming party and now I'm stuck working on shitty mobile games.

You can boot code on a retail PSX using a GameShark or equivalent clone. Get one with a PC Comm Link card and the parallel cable and you're set. Just don't expect any modern utilities to load code successfully... I remember having to boot DOS to make it work. All the tools (official and unofficial) are 16-bit executables

Modchip is 4 dollaroos and works on every console.

This is probably what I'll end up doing. Can a mod chip play games from different regions?

>> No.1801525

>>1801501
With just the chip other regions may show in black and white, but you can do a region mod fairly easily while the console is open for modding anyway.

My advice: Buy. Small. Small. Tiny. Wires.
