Bear with me, it's a bit of an odd one (basically went with the "this shit might be good so I'll throw it in" approach)

280g carrots
210g Bananas
125g Red ripe Jalapenos
125g Green Jalapenos
120g Apples
110g Bhut Jolokias (this is the hot part)
80g prunes
60 cl Balsamic Vinegar
25cl standard blonde Lager Beer

Mix all the solid ingredients with a food processor or blender, then shove into your cooking apparatus of choice. Add Vinegar and Beer and slowly bring it to a boil while stirring.

It's hotter than I had anticipated, and has a surprisingly appley taste.

I took the liberty of fixing up the map a little bit, for your benefit, to see and compare the differences. Here's a detailed changelog. Most of the changes center around texture alignment and unpegging.

-Other anon is right, you're using ASHWALL3 as a flat on the outside area. The player can't see this area from where they stand so even if it HOMs it's not that big of a deal, BUT it will definitely crash vanilla/Chocolate Doom and probably PRBoom+ as well. Fixed it by replacing it with FLAT10.
-Similarly, you used STARTAN3 on the big pillar in the outdoor area with the STARTAN3 texture; I don't even know why this area is a sector and not a blank space since it's a pillar, so I deleted it.
-Similarly unsure why the walls to the outside are sectors at all instead of just being empty so I deleted those as well. (This also fixed some more textures-as-flats nonsense.) If you want to ensure this doesn't happen again, make sure you're using "Doom 2" editing mode when you make your maps, and not "ZDoom (Doom in Doom)" format. This will disable the use of flats as textures and vice-versa.
-Border textures are typically bigger than you've used here; I like to make mine 16 units big while you seem to have gone for 8. They were also all misaligned, making them look actually worse than regular misaligned textures. I fixed all of them, check it out.
-The doorway to the courtyard had "lower unpegged" enabled and it tiled strangely; I undid it and reset it. You ALWAYS want any STEP textures to be aligned with 0 vertical alignment, because if they move around, they'll cause a tutti-frutti effect in vanilla/Chocolate/etc.
-If you put border textures on one wall, it's not always necessary to put them on the wall it borders against. You don't need them both on the outside of the building AND in the hallway it borders on. One will be enough to make it look good, trust me.

-Fixed up a few places where the UAC logo on the carpet would get cut off by making new sectors with FLAT14 (the carpet without the logo) to make it look better.

-Not sure why the red key room was split into 4 sectors like a bad pizza so I merged them together (selected and pressed Shift+J) and deleted the superfluous vertices
-Auto aligned the textures on all the tech platforms the Imps are on (I think mine is set to space but by default it's A)
-Deleted the columns that form the red key door's borders because they were unnecessary
-Added an EXIT sign in the exit room--very easy to forget but VERY helpful for a player, especially when you start making larger maps. You should also usually use the EXITDOOR when you're making a room that has an exit switch in it, but it's not always necessary. Also, if your exit is a walkover trigger or a "portal" (like many later Doom 2 maps) then you don't always need an exit sign; the player will usually figure that the portal is an exit.
-Toned down the lighting slightly in a few rooms; I usually reserve 255 for outside areas only, but this is a personal preference.

This is only intended as a teaching aid, and also, not everything I said up there is a "rule." A lot of this is just the way I map, so some of the decisions are ones I would make (like removing the SUPPORT2 around the windows altogether or that step thing) while others (like aligning SUPPORT2 properly and merging superfluous sectors/removing extra vertices) are things everybody will do.
And keep in mind, I am NOT saying you are a bad mapper, here. You actually have a lot of talent and, if you can harness that and fix up the little technical details, you can definitely be a GREAT mapper. Stick with it! We need more mappers.

So, I have this friend who is an absolute peasant. He used to be a cool kid back in the day, we'd spend all day in Battle.net not playing Diablo 1. Shit was so cash.
Eventually though he became retarded and decided that Xbox was the best way to do video games, something he has stuck with all the way to today.

Anyway: long story short, using a controller: how? Zdoom has pretty sweet support, but IFAICT does not work with Doomseeker. Zandronum's default controller setup is surprisingly awful. No trigger support, only one control stick used, shoot with A... it's pretty bad.

And yes, >playing Doom with a controller, I know it's terrible but it's really his problem when he gets eaten alive.

Nothing sucks worse than a cool map that has some technical problems that hold it back and make it look unprofessional, and they're all things that don't take very long to fix. (I think I spent maybe an hour tuning that up AND writing out the post).

-A green armour is WAY too weak of a powerup to expect a player to wade through nukage for several seconds for--ESPECIALLY when it's not marked a secret, and the player can't see what they're going for beforehand, so they have no way to assess if the risk is worth it. A radsuit would be a pretty appropriate powerup, if you don't want to mark it secret, and you could put a further secret on the walls somewhere or something if the player had a radsuit to deal with.
Alternatively, if you just place a medkit (or change the armour to a berserk pack) then that works. The key is that the player's risk has to be rewarded properly, and a green armour is just too weak for that.
-Don't have shotgunners guard a shotgun because the player will just get the shotgun from them instead. Change them to zombiemen or get rid of the shotgun. (Put the green armour there instead!)
-In fact, there are no secrets in the map. This means it's impossible to complete with 100% secrets, because if there's no secrets then it's 0% by default. Add some secrets!
-There's a staircase to escape from one side of the nukage pit, but not the other. This is fine if the player falls in before it's raised, but after you raise it, they'll just have to die if they fall in on the other side. This is not necessarily a problem, since the bridge and pit are telegraphed well enough that any reasonable player will immediately understand that it's not a good idea to dive down there.
-The bridge (when lowered initially) should be raised up by about 8 or 16 units, just to avoid changing floor textures. The player will still be able to walk over it with no problems and it'll make the map look a little better.

-This is personal preference but I don't like when BIGDOORs are so thin and move fast. I usually reserve that for the smaller doors.
-Consider making some monsters deaf or adding some extra Block Sound lines. As it stands, the way the level is designed makes it so the Imps behind the first door wake up at the beginning of the level, as well as all the Zombiemen in the main room when you shoot at the ones in the windows.
-Monsters usually shouldn't be able to walk through nukage freely, although the area where the Imps can do it is small enough that it could be ignored.
-Could use a border texture between the STARGREY and the tan tech texture where the bridge is.
-The area around the shotgun needs texture alignment. It looks okay right now but using a different texture designed to tile lengthwise more (brick or that big grey ugly concrete texture works) would pull it together a little better.
-Not a fan of the COMPBLU texture being used to border the door towards the exit for some reason, it looks bad to me. Similarly, you change the floor texture without changing the floor height, which breaks one of Romero's rules and doesn't usually look very good.

It's not a bad little map at all, just a few little extra things could push it up.

In other news, I withdrew my map slot for the Ultimate Doom In Name Only project. Between the project lead switching hands (apparently?), and some of the stuff they've said about the maps, I have my doubts that the project can come to fruition and be good, but mostly I just don't think my mapping style is a good fit for the project.

They said my map doesn't resemble a "toxin refinery" very much but for fuck's sake, I have nukage fucking everywhere and big toxic waste funnels and shit. I don't know how much more I could make the existing map look like one. And rather than butcher the existing map (which is pretty alright right now; could use some fixes but I'm working on that) I'd rather just withdraw and not bother. I'll incorporate the map into my existing mapset instead, where I can put more weapons and monsters into it, and not worry so much about whether it looks like a real "toxin refinery" or not.

Is there some kind of cheat prevention on the chests in RLA? I started off a map with a chest close by, got some decent armor and a good gun, however I died, load my last save, and now all that comes out is two sawed off shotguns or whatever. Didn't like any of the gun sounds except for the Chaingun and maybe the BFG9000.
Soul Cube was pretty cool. Also liked how it said USE US when it was ready.
Hell is the best part of the game.

Enemy encounters weren't very exciting or varied.
Hell Knight redesign 9/10, rest of the monsters were okayish but nothing amazing.
Cyberdemon battle was bad. Other bosses were okay.

I normally give Doom 3 a lot of shit but looking back at it I didn't really hate it THAT much.
However I can't play it nearly as much as Doom 1 or 2 just because the pace and enemy layout alone makes it kind of bad for replays.

People rag on it, but honestly was pretty fucking alright in my books. Yeah, it's not LIKE Doom 1 and 2, but design-wise it's got a similar theory of gameplay as Doom 2 (want item? AMBUSH!!!). The lighting was fucking god-tier for its day.

On the downside, it was slower, less cluttered with enemies and felt a bit more like what you'd get if you put Doom enemies in Quake and buffed their health by 50% while reducing the number of monsters by 75%.

Doom 1 and 2 are like flying down a deserted highway at max speed. Doom 3 is like weaving through trees at night in second gear.

So, I rewrote the entire monster script and stat system today for Doom RPG (almost at the expense of my sanity) and my god, it's infinitely faster now. even with ludicrous monster counts. I was able to run levels upwards in the 2000-3000 monster count range and see barely any FPS drop.

Very much so. Often with mods though, ranging from mapsets and smoother animations to gameplay mods and total conversions.
Also the atmosphere in PC Doom is different from D64. It has his moody moments but the PC version has even faster movement and the soundtrack is metal, not the moody thing D64 has.

Yholl once said that the Technophobia, Nightmare and Fall of man were going to have their own monster sets in the Monster pack, so i came to this

-Secondary/elite zombie soldiers are common enemies, said enemies are going to have their own Techno version that replaces them sometimes[i.e. pic related replacing Minigunner sometimes]
-Like in UV there are 3 types of imps[normal, cyber and nightmare], in Technophobia, the cyber imp will have his 2.0 and 3.0 edits[2.0 has an armblade and shots 3 plasma shots or throws a fireball and 3.0 shots an overcharged plasma shot and has the same arm blade as 2.0 but it does more damage] and the same applies for the rest of the nightmare difficulty monster set
-Tech pinky has a powered form that dashes like a VOTOMS mech, basically a faster version of the Tech pinky
-Tech cacodemon + a version of said monster but with legs and stronger
-Machine elemental to be implemented already, and the Machine agony elemental to exist[beep beep motherfucker]
-Cybruiser to have a fireball attack, fireball charged missile and his melee attack to be faster
-Technolord to have Project MSX's baron mega ball and the upgraded Techno-lord to be a boss replacement [kinda like how Agony elemental replaces the cyberdemon sometimes],i call it: The Neo Techno-lord. In less surreal news, here's my new proposition for the Blaz shot's standard form:

the utility function swaps between firing modes, the pellets you're accustomed now, at a semi-auto rate and charge function, and a full auto mode which fires weaker darts at a rapid pace, and they generate less red mana compared to the pellets, about three times less actually.

Personally I think when monsters are in those pain animations(Shotgun guys missing an arm, Zombiemen missing a leg, Baron of Hell almost torn in half, etc) the constant pain sound shouldn't be looping as much.

Like there should be a pause between each pain sound.

Thanks. I've been dying for a good melee system for quite some time, and hopefully this goes a long way to it. It probably won't be too in-depth, since it's just a thing while I'm waiting for the Metrood people to come back at me with the resources, but who knows. If I give the sword a charge attack, as in hold the fire button and wind up a powerful attack, what if you hit reload or altfire while charging, and you sheathe the sword?

While the sword is sheathed you switch over to fists, punches would come out faster than the sword but do less damage, primary would throw out jabs, alt would throw out the subweapon punches of varying strength, stronger punches would generate crazy knockback, shoving monsters back and making them slam into walls and other monsters. Also charging up an alt fire punch long enough would make you fire off the rapid item crash punch.

There's two types of wads--iwads like doom, doom2, strife, etc, these are the core games.

Its quite hard to find the balance between fast paced gameplay, correctly placed monsters and an interesting map architecture.

You need a lot of experience and you have to know how to make certain enemies more dangerous (e.g. by playing Arachnotrons far away from the player or a Baron of Hell / Mancubi in a small room with a few obstacles).
Mappers should take a look at the Ultimate Doom maps, they are really great.

You dont know how many wads I dropped because of crap monster placement and retarded amounts of monster hordes, containing all monsters that will eventually cause an infight and just make the player waste time waiting for the infight to stop just because the player wants to save ammo.

Another problem is the weapon placement. It depends of the player usually pistol starts each map (like I do) or if he keeps the weapons from the previous map. But its too difficult (if not impossible) to solve this problem.

There's a lot of discussion about brutal doom, complaining about ketchup, earrape sounds, and general controversy.

BUT there's a feature that I haven't heard complain nor defend, and it is GIBBING DEATHS FOR ALL MONSTERS. (With flying pieces)

I personally like that a lot. It feels kind of anticlimatic when I fire a BFG into a group of demons and they just... Die. Is not like when i take down zombiemen and every single of them is resting in pieces.
This gets more accentuated when you have more powerful community weapon mods like DoomRL arsenal or Russian Overkill.


Is there any mod that gives every monster a gibbing animation that is not that horribly uncompatible with everything? (Don't remember if Beautiful Doom did that)

I loaded it up with UltimateDoom.wad, started E1 on UV, ran slow as shit, I actually found it hard to use my mouse since framerate was so bad, so I played with keyboard.
So I ran though E1M1 with keyboard, got all the secrets, half of the enemies were dead from infighting before I ever got to them but whatever.
I got to the end and flipped the switch...and my game crashed. "DoomRetro.exe has stopped working"
Oh well, maybe it was just my computer. So I load it up again, and flip the switch again. Crashes again.

Great port. The future of source ports.

It got axed, because it wasn't very useful. The dev said the main reason it existed was for people to share maps easier, but it needed all the settings to be identical to generate the same identical thing, and the only other purpose was the "novelty" of putting in a number (like 666 or your birthday) to generate a specific wad. He said it's much easier to just share the generated wad now if you want to share the levels you generated, which I agree with, there's tons of temp filesharing sites you can put it on. Also, he received more complaints and demands to mess with the seed generator than ANYTHING else in the entire program, and it didn't work that well anyway, so he cut it.
