Maybe I'm a bit late, but I've been playing Pokemon Brown recently, and I've just noticed how much symbolism is in Alakazam's original sprite. They really left nothing up to the imagination, and it just gets worse when the standard Color pallet is added. It's no wonder it was censored for Western markets.

What are some creepy things you've noticed in older games?

All I see is a design that looks like a Star of David in his forehead. What other symbols do you see?

The shape of his head was intentionally designed to look like a pentagram. The eyes are completely blank. The ears look a lot like horns in the original version.

Alakazam was designed to invoke the thought of Satan. Due to Japan's low Christian population, it's acceptable to feature such things in media, even things marketed toward children. Pretty interesting stuff.

It does sort of look like the old depiction of satan. I don't think it would be too farfetched to reason that it might have been an influence

That's Baphomet, a deity created by Christians to villainize pagans. In terms of what Alakazam is supposed to be, I'm pretty certain its a magical fox with some wizard looks thrown in and made human shaped. This is actually a fairly common trope in Japan, see pic related.

>intentionally designed to look like a pentagram.
A pentagram by definition has five points. Penta- means five. If they were "intentionally" trying to make it a pentagram they failed miserably.

Either they were intentionally trying to make a six-point star, or they accidentally made a star while intentionally trying to depict light reflecting off his bald head.

kind of, but not quite. once the catholics began to do their thing and the christians started losing control over the templars some templars began to work (rape and pillage) on their own accord. the splinter templars were accused of worshipping a diety called baphomet (they had another name for it, and there are various 'testimonies' of templars saying they worshipped baphomet) but it gave the christians a way to rally templars against their own while grasping onto what little power they had left.
then it was adopted by alchemists and levi drew the most famous interpretation of it.

The whole Devil's Crash game, I think. They even renamed the game to Dragon's Fury in the US release and changed lots of sprites (pentagrams included).

Ashkenazim have German names. Because they are originally from Germany. Not everyone with those names are Jewish. So while a Goldberg from New York is 95% likely to be Jewish, not everyone with a "berg" on their name is Jewish. In fact, most aren't.
